Para quem estiver nas cidades de Bento Gonçalves ou Garibaldi, fica a dica: não deixem de visitar a Cervejaria Leopoldina (que fica em frente à Chandon com a BR 470 no meio das duas). A visita custa R$ 30,00 por pessoa, mas garante a degustação de 9 rótulos de cerveja artesanal. A Cervejaria Leopoldina faz parte do Grupo Famiglia Valduga e, no mesmo prédio, engloba também a produção de espumantes pelo método charmat Ponto Nero que tem uma visitação à parte. While they only have about four or so choices, they're all quite good....an IPA, and APA, a typical Pilsen and, if I recall, and Irish Red. Food is quite tasty as well....the usual French fires and "batatas rusticas", an interesting sausage dish flavored with some sweetish Jack Daniels-based BBQ sauce, and a whole bunch of other interesting choices. Max S, the owner, as well as Rodrigo and Marcos - the occasional bartender and waiter, respectively - are all great guys and are happy to BS about beer and life experiences. When I show up - generally a Thu or Fri after 4PM - there's usually a VW mini-bus tour popping in....part of a brewpub-hopping tour that runs thru Canela, Gramado, etc., so I get to listen to Max give his spiel to people from all over Brazil....a lot of fun. I, as the "token American" beer aficionado who lives in town, always throw in my 2 cents on the subject, telling them how they are in "Valhalla" or "Olympus", able to enjoy truly excellent beer and decent grub.
