Looking for an interesting detour off Canada Hwy 138 on your way to Sept Iles? Take a right turn on Chemin du Vieux Phare and cross a sturdy wooden bridge to Pointe des Monts Lighthouse. Scenic location on a granite rock island. Enjoyable tour of the lighthouse keepers quarters. Interesting historical displays and loads of history. I agree with previous lighthouse residents Paul Peuliot and the Montagnais- it gave me the heebie jeebies.See more..

Families will like ile Ste-Helene in summer, close to downtown/Vieux Port and a point of respite. It’s accessible on foot. Late June to early August, Ste Helene island is the best spot to enjoy the fireworks on Saturdays at 10 pm. (and currently Wednesdays at 10). You can rent seats here in advance, after taking the Metro underground to the island. It beats standing at the Old Port (on Promenade outside the closed Pied-du-Courant prison) or having suicide-prevention grating to obscure one’s view atop Jacques-Cartier Bridge, which shuts down during the half-hour light shows. Traversing the Bridge by 8 pm is another way to have a comfortable front-row view on the isle—just pack ear plugs and water bottles. There’s also La Ronde amusement park and views from the lighthouse. Montreal is a beautiful city.See more..
