4.5Talonpoikaismuseo Yli-Kirra(3 reviews) - Local historic farmstead museum I've grown to love Spent 2-3 hours History Museums
This is a historical farmstead museum representing the life in the 1800s in Finland. It's situated in a small municipality of Punkalaidun, deep in the Finnish countryside. The museum is located on a fairly big area with multiple buildings telling about the life some 150 years ago; residential buildings, cattle shed, stable, sauna and so on. There's also a quite impressive collection of old tractors, cars and other machines. The museum is probably at its best every summer, at the first weekend of July, when there's this two-day event when a bunch of people show you how everything used to be done back then; you can say the museum comes to life during those days and there's lot to see. The small local museum has gained some publicity in Finnish scale with a popular children's book Koiramäen talossa, written and drawn by Finnish author Mauri Kunnas. The author Kunnas got the inspiration for his book from Yli-Kirra museum and he used it as a landscape to draw the pictures of the book from. It's a great family attraction with the kids. Yli-Kirra also hosts a lot of school trips as it combines outdoor activity, nature, history and kids remember it from the Kunnas books mentioned earlier. There's also a small cafe on the premises. The entrance fee to the museum area is a few euros. I might be too biased to review this place as I practically grew up here, in this town and at its museum. I am fond of this place, and I hope everyone else finds it endearing as well.See more..
