4.5Commonwealth War Cemetery(13 reviews) - Poignant place for reflection Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries • Monuments & Statues
A beautifully kept cemetery in the shade of flamboyant trees, it is also known as the Australian cemetery due to the large numbers of Australian servicemen buried here. The cemetery on the site of a former Japanese Prisoner of War camp is the resting place for Australians who died in the Japanese invasion and in the camp itself. There are British servicemen too mostly from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force . During my research I read the following which anyone planning to visit should bear in mind........ "Please be aware that there have been a number of instances recently where visitors have been charged to enter the site. We would like to state, categorically, that the Commonwealth War Graves Commission does not charge anyone for entering any cemetery, and visitors should not pay anyone, in order to gain access."See more..

Not many people know about this site. But this old mosque is just full of history. This is the first mosque in East Indonesia dated back to year 1414. People in this are is still using this mosque for religious activities. The pole, the pulpit, and even some of the roof beam of the mosque are still original. They all made of wood. In the mosque there are two old Al-Qur’an written by hand by Imam Muhammad Arikulapessy in 1550 and by Mushaf Nur Cahya in 1590. Every time big Mosque of Istiqlal in Jakarta has festival, these old Al-Qur’an are brought to Jakarta. Many thinks needed to be repaired, said the man who take care the mosque. Because if it rains very hard, the water leaked in to the mosque. I hope that Ambon authority also will pay more attention to this historic mosque.See more..
