    This brick tower, rising over ten meters high, was part of the original city fortifications of Lampang. Built in 1808, with one side open, it has a three-story scaffold inside that was used to lift cannon and shot up to the battlement on top. The tower was probably intended as defense against a possible Burmese invasion. But the Burmese had been driven from their last stronghold in Chiang Saen in 1804 and did not march into northern Thailand again. So the tower was never used, but never demolished, either, and has been kept as part of the city’s heritage. See more..
