Bregninge Kirke, Funen and Islands, Denmark

4.5 (42 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Funen and Islands Churches & Cathedrals

A beautiful church

The church is rich decorated at the altar with golden figures. The churchroom is realy nice inside with the altar in one end and the organ in the other. In the small room at the entrance there is a mosaicwindow made in strong vibrant colours. Fantastic to the white walls when the sun shines through.

    Coming Home
You won't want to miss touring a Danish jewel. This beautiful church is where my great-grandfather was baptized in 1869. I had no idea when I visited in late June, 2013, that it would be in such fantastic shape. It's unique triptych, medieval frescos and age (it is estimated to have been built around 1200 AD) have ensured that it has been beautifully maintained by the congregation and though restoration efforts of the National Danish Museum. Information about the history of the church, as well as postcards, books and pamphlets, are available. I brought home wonderful information about the church to share with family. The church grounds are well-maintained and a church host who spoke Danish and English was available for questions. In the tradition of Danish churches, two model ships remain hung in above the congregation. These ships took on an especially significant meaning as I realized that the generation of parishioners living on this island surrounded by the sea - they lived and died by it.

    Incredible Experience
My wife and I visited Aero and decided to follow the Rick Steves self-guided tour. When we came across the church we were impressed with the layout of the cemetery and its care. In the church there was so much to see ... the painters unhappy "fool" on the ceiling, the hour glasses on the pulpit, and much more. If you get the chance, stop and check it out.
