Fascinating wooden bridge

Took the bus from Iwakuni Station to the stop a two minute walk from the bridge as part of the good value bridge, ropeway, castle combination ticket. The bridge was beautiful to look at, both on top and underneath, although as others have said be ready for the wide shallow steps that can be quite spot on the downward slope until you get used to them. I bought an icecream to eat on the way back before I saw the sign that asked you not to eat or drink on the bridge.

    Unique arched bridge
    Easy to reach via train to Iwakuni (from Hiroshima) and then a local bus to the end stop by the river. You have to pay to cross it (nominal charge for a return ticket). There are 5 arches on this wooden bridge with varying gradients and not suitable for wheelchairs or prams. Great gardens on the other side of the river to visit before you return.

    Amazingly beautiful structure
    Amazingly beautiful structure. Walking across it feels rather strange as there are both shallow steps and no steps. Like no other bridge anywhere. You have to pay for a return even if you are only going one way.
