4.5Mt. Misen(1.224 reviews) - Climb for the view, and the walk Mountains
If you’re already on the island you may as well make your way to the peak. I’d suggest you take the rope way up, and then walk down. The walk to the rope way is pretty pleasant, you can stop by the deer park on the way. Once at the peak walk to the viewing point and take in the island. You should also climb to the top of the rope way building as well. The views are even better. Then on your walk down make sure to stop at the money shrine - it’s tucked inside a smallish opening. For the walk down, you have a choice of three paths, we took the left one (as illustrated on the map given on the island). It’s of a medium distance and time commitment. I think the longest one is the least crowded and most peaceful, but I really wanted to go to the tengu temple and we only had a couple of hours. Just make sure to watch out for the moving metal plates on the path and don’t fall off.See more..
The trip in the Daisen was really great. Although it was slippery to climb the steps in the snow, the different experience deepened the impression of the trip. I took pictures with Daisen in Flower park, tasted delicious vegetarian food and Ice cream, visited the shrine, and enjoyed the tea time at the Hongu Izumi spring(use spring water). All these experiences were so wonderful. Travelers Huber San’in ’s itinerary and activities are really good.See more..
4.5Mt. Washu(176 reviews) - Beatiful view and easy to reach Mountains
Some of the online information about how hard it is to reach the top by bus is not correct. We visited the top by bus from kojima station. Take bus 4 just outside the station, departure time is from 08.30 till 17.30 every hour. It takes 30 min to reach the top, from there you'll need to walk for another 10 minutes to get there. Busses back to the station departure from 09.00 till 18.00 every hour. It is definately worth the view!See more..
At Mt. Mitoku you can climb up to Sanbutsu-ji. There is not much information online, at least not in English. Be aware that the climb is challenging, over roots, rocks and partly 90 degrees up clinging to a chain. All in all, until arriving at the peak shrine it takes about one hour. You are only allowed to go up if you are two or more. Have VERY good climbing shoes, no sticks, flexible clothing, wear gloves (would at least help), bring a towel, maybe spare t-shirt and take plenty to drink and/or energy drink or energy bar (1 l per person) as you'll probably sweat like mad. You can borrow straw shoes (was surprised how effective they are) but would prefer my own grip shoes next time. It is definitely not a walk or an easy hike; it's doable, if you are prepared and equipped; plus the gate closes around 4.30 pm, so better do not leave later than 1 pm to avoid time pressure and you might like to enjoy the beautiful view, wondering how the monks were able bring up all the logs and build the shirnes hundreds of years ago without the help of machines.See more..
