1 of the 3 iconic Japan not to miss
One of the 3 iconic/scenic site of Japan and it's worth visiting. Before I went, I found that the Torii gate is under renovation (ie. totally covered), so I was hesitant abt making the trip to Miyajima. When I bite the bullet to make the trip, I was surprised that the cover on the gate was removed. Only some of part of the temporary bridge for the renovation/construction was still visible but I was satisfied enough to see the gate uncovered on Nov 28. I guess by now, all construction and renovation stuff were removed. There were lots of people (locals and foreigners) in the shrine, it helps to go early to avoid crowds. Some said to see both the shrine and torii gate in both high and low tides but I did not have time for it. Headed to the shrine and gate once I got off the ferry and then headed to take the ropeway for Misen's observatory.

More to see than "just" the Torii
The Itsukushima Shrine is very easy to access as it is just nearby Miyajima's main street close to the port that the ferry docks in to. The entry to the shrine is paid, but well worth the effort, as its not just the famous itsukushima shrine torii, that can be observed there. I would describe Itsukushima as the venice of shrines, as it is build practically on water and has a different vibe to it during ebb and flow. The famous orange color of the buildings adds to uniqueness, making it one of Miyajima's most valued sights and rightfully so.
