4.5Wat Rong Khun(7.832 reviews) - Beautiful temple Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
Beautiful temple south of Chiang Rai city. Beautifully decorated and surrounded by lots of visual art. Worth paying a ticket to go in to see the cool modern paintings which you rarely see in a Buddhist temple. Must visit.See more..
4.0Clock Tower Chiang Rai(2.080 reviews) - Not a visit but a passby Wednesday: 7:00 PM - 7:15 PM, 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
This super clock tower will not go unnoticed. Massive golden full of lights clock tower and beautiful at the same time. Marks the center of the city and they have a short light and sound (so to speak) in the evenings. But due to the small size of Chiang Rai, why not! spend a few minutes there and take some photos. Nobody knows or seems to know that was designed by Achan Chalermchai Kositpipat, who also built the White temple, indeed this is one of the most beautiful clock towers in Thailand that was built in 2005 to honour Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. 4.5Wat Rong Seur Ten (Blue Temple)(981 reviews) - Loved it! Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Wow, amazing, very quiet after visiting the White Temple which was nice. The blue, gold and other colours were amazing. We both like blue so enjoyed the colours. It was well done with some new additions going up now so you could see some of the different stages in the building and painting process, very interesting. Inside and out was nice. Some nice little stands on the side, I had some a nice ice cream cone and my wife had a cup of nice sweet strawberries. Great place to visit!See more..
4.5Wat Huay Pla Kang(522 reviews) - Good sunset spot Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Good place to come and watch the sunset, sat on the platform behind the giant goddess statue for this which gave great views over the mountains. You can go up inside the statue to the top in an elevator however this was closed when we visited. After the sunsets then the temple is lit up and looks very beautiful. Worth a stop.See more..
3.5The Thai - Burmese Border Gate(317 reviews) - Border now open for overland travels in Myanmar Points of Interest & Landmarks
Until now international tourists could not travel to other regions in Myanmar, when they crossed the border between Mae Sai and Tachilek. This has changed on August 28. Myanmar now allows international tourists to enter the country at the for checkpoints of Mae Sai / Tachilek, Mae Sot / Myawaddy, Phunaron / Htee Kee and Ranong / Kawthoung. Of course you have to have the visa stamp already in your passport, because there are no visa on arrival. 4.0King Mengrai Monument(214 reviews) - The Great place for everyone. Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
The tourists can take a free tour by signing the names at the city hall office behind King Mengrai Monument. The buses will park near the tour office so everyone can board easily. The tour will take about 3 hours around town. The tourists can visit 9 temples and see the way Chiang Rai people live and doing business. Make sure bring water and be ready for going from one temple to another. The guides were very friendly when we were there. The people around town were waving at us. It really made our day. See more..

4.5Wat Phra Singh(140 reviews) - Very nice Wat. Points of Interest & Landmarks
We did our own, nickel walking tour of Wats and this was our first. Nice grounds, good washroom. It is not a large Wat but we like visiting many to see the diversity of styles inside and out. It has very nice grounds and is quite ornate plus it has a jade Buddha. We did see arrangements and setup for a funeral of young man, sad to see. It is past one of the large local markets and if you like Wats, very much worth visiting.See more..
Mae Fah Luang Garden. a beautiful floral park The flower garden was designed according to the wish of Princess Mother (the mother of King Rama 9). Entrance for 90 THB (discount for seniors) A delight, my earlier study of the reviews and other inputs proved me right, it had a rightful place on my bucket list, I am keen on floriculture, God's bounty to us. It compares favourably with the gardens in Europe and Dubai, though smaller. Hire of a Golf cart for seniors is recommended, as there are inclines.See more..
I really would liked to have spent more time here as it was unexpected how extensive the ruins are. If you are interested in temple ruins try and schedule some extra time....See more..
4.5Tea Plantations(106 reviews) - breathtaking! Points of Interest & Landmarks
Probably one of the most amazing places we visited in our self-made tour in Thailand. Here you get to know the habits of people from this Chinese corner in Northern Thailand. If you love tea - this place is a must! Unfortunately we had only the afternoon to walk around Mae Salong. It's worth a visit from the morning, so you can get back in the early afternoon without running (we lost the last bus to get back in Chiang Rai!). I suggest to choose a tea house and to visit the tea plantations and taste the different types of teas, the owners will be happy to explain everything about tea and to answer all your questions! Transport - we took public buses - it's easier if you have your own car, because from a certain time in the afternoon buses stop. It's not the easiest place to reach, so pay attention.See more..

This underrated temple is frequently confused with Wat Mung Muang. This temple is simply gorgeous and is unusual because it is full of beautiful portraits. Everything is shiny and at night the lights reflect well. This is my favourite temple in Chiang Rai. See more..
My most enduring memory of Thailand is this wonderful experience. The botanical gardens are truly beautiful and the museum recently added to the grounds bring emotional tears to the eye with an amazing insight into the country's history. As a farang luckily married to the most beautiful local girl I just simply love this visiting place as often as I can.See more..
if on foot do this,,, get a tuk tuk from chaing khong (its about 10km outside and will coast 100 baht each. Then get your passport stamped at departures. Get the bus over the bridge (about 40 baht per person also may have to pay for extra bags but we got away with it) The shuttle bus leaves every 20 mins or when ever its full. Then get off at the Laos side. Pay $35 after you have filled in a Laos visa form and then your are in. You will need to get a tuk tuk to the long boat port which will be another 100 baht each. Once you get to the port (boat leaves at 11am) go to the ticket office and buy the ticket. They take baht dollars and Kip (120,000 kip or 900 baht per ticket). You should get a seat number for day one so if your early go grab a coffee and some baguettes for lunch! no need to get a tour do this journey yourself.. save your self some money and hassle.. This new bridge is a dream, but does mean two extra tuktuk journeys rather than the old boat across the river system. See more..
4.0Doi Wao & Wat Thamphajoen(49 reviews) - Temple with a view Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Once you have passed through the market, where you can grab some roasted chestnuts or fresh fruit, you will need to climb a substantial Naga staircase to this temple. At the top, the temple, while not the grandest, is beautiful and houses a unique giant scorpion statue and boasts a wonderful view across the Myanmar border.See more..
4.5Wat Phra That Doi Tung(43 reviews) - A nice surprise at the top of the hill. Points of Interest & Landmarks

A wonderful and relaxing experience. Beautiful and peaceful trails and grounds. The Meditation Hall is large. Many statues around the grounds. There is an Art Museum, Restaurant, and Coffee Shop. The high point was actually meeting Monk V. Vachiredhi. He has published over 20 books, is an artist, a close friend of the Dalai Lama, and has met with the Pope. One can stay at the center and take meditation sessions. Worth the visit.See more..
4.0Wat Phra Kaew(38 reviews) - A Nice Find While Wondering Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Well I thought we were wondering but my wife had a plan. To find Wat Phra Kaew Chaing Khong. For Buddhists its very special as it is closely connected to the other two more famous ones In Bangkok and Chaing Rai. Its nice as we could walk along the river till the steps and street up to the temple. Its was very quiet, also cold as it was winter in Thailand and a cold snap came in. For us 12 degrees is cold. The monks keep it clean and well kept up, the Boat and surrounding small halls are nice. It not big at all and can be toured and photographed in an hour. See more..

3.5Hill Tribe Villages(23 reviews) - The Long Neck People Points of Interest & Landmarks
Heard about this group of people. Able to visit this village. How the ladies endure this neck-breaking life? The "necklace" is made of long and heavy rod. Girls as young as six years old start to put this necklace around their necks. I don't really understand for what reasons, maybe for attraction, safety or traditional beliefs.See more..

4.5Pha Hi Village(14 reviews) - Beautiful scenic drive Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
Drove past Pha Hi village on route 1149, discovering this place by accident actually since we took a wrong turn. Turns out to be one of the most scenic and beautiful drives I've done in Thailand, with the cool crisp November weather and driving along the twisting mountain top road at sunset and seeing the shadows of the mountains of Myanmar just across the border. Some where near Pha Hi village we drove right past the Myanmar border outpost.See more..

4.5Than Patibatkan Doi Chang Mub(4 reviews) - Great view point Points of Interest & Landmarks • Military Bases & Facilities • Scenic Walking Areas
Not worth a special trip, but if you're already up a Mae Fah Luang garden, certainly worth the extra 15 minutes drive. There's a small coffee stand on site and toilets as well (not sure how clean, but they smelled a bit from outside). Take a few photos, have a cup of coffee, and be back on the road in 30 minutes. There's a donation box at the entry point, otherwise it's free to visit. See more..
If you are visiting the Phu Chi Fa Forest Park you can make a quick visit to this agricultural center which is only 10 kilometers from the village center of Phu Chi Fa. The gardens are well maintained, the local staff grow Thai winter vegetables, flowers, wheat and many fruit trees. This center is mostly known for its wide variety of winter flowers such as tulips. The gardens grow along a steep hill but there is small road which we were able to drive to access the lower sections of the park. The center of the park has a small covered "arena" where the winter flowers are displayed. The staff was very pleasant and informed us where to go within the park. This is not a big place but still worth a visit. The views along the road leading to the center and at the center are amazing, take your time, it is a small road and there are many view points along the way to enjoy the natural scenery over the mountains and plains.See more..
Hotel concierges and drivers in Chiang Rai don’t know this place, so you have to instruct them about the location. It’s basically on the way between the Golden Triangle and Mae Sai, but not on the main road. At least when coming from the Golden Triangle, the way to Jinnaluck is clearly marked with plenty of road signs. Just remember their logo you see on the website. It’s not much of a detour since the secondary road going past Jinnaluck continues to Mae Sai. Turn right from main road #1290 into #1041. Jinnaluck consist of a factory, a shop and a workshop where children (maybe adults, too) can make a nice framed picture with mulberry paper (250 baht, takes about 20 minutes). They also have kind of a museum where the production of paper is explained. You can get coffee and water but there is no real restaurant. The shop sells various paper sheets for gift wrapping and paper products like boxes, bags, booklets or ornaments. It’s not cheap: cheapest paper sheets (thin, one color) are 5 Baht while most of the really nice sheets are 50 Baht. Quantities on stock are very limited. If you’re also visiting Chiang Mai, HQ Paper has a better selection of sheets at better prices while a wider range of paper products can be bought on the night market. Jinnaluck is recommended as a charming little place to learn about mulberry paper. It’s not a shopping paradise. Call them to avoid visiting at the same time as tour buses. And have their phone number ready so your driver can ask for directions if necessary.See more..
4.5Doi Pha Mi(2 reviews) - My beautiful place Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
Doi Pha Mi or Doi Pha Mei ( ดอยผาหมี ) is the commune name. I like this place There are several cafes with beautiful views and 2 or 3 Home stays. 4.0Dong Wiang Kaen Ancient Town(1 review) - Abandoned Village Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
I was told about this place by a local who discovered it himself quite by accident. It's located 500 meters due east of the crossroads in the village of Wiang Kaen. It lies on a hill, covered by ancient trees, surrounded by agriculture, orange and pomelo orchards. You can ride in by motorbike and then hike around a bit. There are a few structures and a budda, which appears to be regularly visited by monks. From what I heard, the stupas were desecrated by grave robbers, a pity. Anyway, there is an odd presence in the forest. Hike in and enjoy. There are no facilities of any kind, but the nearby village is loaded with shops and restaurants. Try something a bit different here, definitely not your standard tourist experience. See more..
4.0Akha Hill Tribe(1 review) - Informative! Neighborhoods • Points of Interest & Landmarks Part of our tour, this optional visit was organized ( $ 22 US ). First we were picked up at our resort, drove in a pick up truck, up the mountain , the terrain is very uneven . Once there we walked up on uneven path to meet the families, were showned their homes and habitat. It was so informative to learn about the long neck tribe women where they believe if a girl is born on a Wednesday night, she is cursed so to remove this , she must wear the long metal attachment to her neck as early as age 5 weighing 1kg then as she grows she must change it to a heavier one and longer. This whole apparatus makes their shoulders go down and have long necks. We got to take pictures and of course there are shops where we can buy souvenirs and indirectly help them out.See more..
