  1. 5.0 Davis Mt. Broom Shop (26 reviews)
    - Artisan Broom Shop in Rural Texas
Spent < 1 hour Speciality & Gift Shops
    Davis Mt. Broom Shop image
Ron Cox makes artisanal brooms in a little shop in downtown Fort Davis. The brooms are beautiful, and the shop owner's stories are a delight. He makes the brooms right in front of you. He can custom make a broom and will ship it to your house, too. They cost $25 and up, expensive for a broom, but cheap for a functional piece of art. We compared how the handmade broom worked to a store broom, and saw that the handmade broom really is better at sweeping up dust. An adorable little shop, it's worth a visit if you want a great Americana souvenir or just to see how the handmade brooms are made. See more..
  2. 5.0 Wild Rose Gallery (24 reviews)
    - An Oasis in the Desert
    Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Galleries
    Wild Rose Gallery image
A proper art gallery, not a cluttered up gift shop. The gallery is home to fine art photography by Robert Haspel. A wide variety of subject matter and style is displayed. Robert is a long time (old) photographer that enjoys sharing his work. Sales are secondary, so feel free to visit. Please check out the reviews . . . NOTE: I am a one man show, and for the most part, open daily. Periodically I am away, and the gallery is therefore closed. It's the nature of running a small town business. See more..

  7. 5.0 Davis Mountain Nut Company (2 reviews)
    - Delicious Nuts, Friendly Service
    Speciality & Gift Shops
The nuts are delicious! Our favorites are the jalapeno peppered and salted pecans and, of course, chocolate-covered pecans. The owner is friendly and welcoming. We visited in late June/early July 2020 and this was one of the few places open; most of the other stores and restaurants in Fort Davis were closed due to the pandemic. Be sure and stop in if you are in Fort Davis! See more..
  8. 5.0 Fort Davis Outfitters (2 reviews)
    - Stop and browse
    Speciality & Gift Shops
I read the one review and felt I needed to go browse. Glad I did! Been Looking for a vest with lots of pockets ( like a fishermen or photographer) and found it here for $30. This is a general store, with all kinds of random goods - clothing, gift wrap, RV products and hats. Quality dog food too. If you are in the area you should stop and browse. See more..
  9. 4.5 McDonald Observatory (1.310 reviews)
    - It's worth the long drive and an overnight stay nearby.
Sunday: Spent 2-3 hours Observatories & Planetariums
    McDonald Observatory image
The McDonald Observatory Visitors Center staff appreciate all of the positive reviews (and even some of the negative ones, too!) that well-meaning and well-intentioned visitors have left over the years. However, we feel that TripAdvisor does not provide anywhere close to the level of management tools needed to combat the misinformation that routinely is provided by, again, well-intentioned visitors to others visiting its pages. With no way other than the "management response" feature to cull and corral the sometimes wildly misleading information posted on these pages, we feel that using TripAdvisor for anything beyond getting the general feel of the establishment is pointless. 13. 4.5 Davis Mountain Scenic Loop (111 reviews)
    - Awesome landscape
    Scenic Drives
    Davis Mountain Scenic Loop image
Coming up from Marfa, we made a left turn onto Texas 166, which winds first west and then north. A right turn at Texas 118 sends you back to Fort Davis. The loop is roughly 75 miles in length, and at a leisurely pace with occasional stops for taking photos will take about 2 hours. If you plan on having a picnic or taking a hike, add more time accordingly. The scenery is majestic, and as is always the case in the desert, best viewed in the early morning or late afternoon, when the play of light and shadow across the landscape is at its most dramatic. Of course, you will want to take the usual precautions when traversing a barren stretch of real estate: start out with a full tank of gas, and have plenty of water on hand. See more..
  14. 4.5 Jeff Davis County Library (11 reviews)
    - Nice Selection of Videos
    Spent < 1 hour Libraries
    Jeff Davis County Library image
I enjoy visiting libraries, but we stopped at this one because we wanted to check out a couple of DVDs to watch in our camper. For such a small town, the library has a very good selection of books and dvds. Even though I have library cards from two libraries at home, I was not able to check anything out. However, the librarian told me about the TexShare Card which I can get at my home library. It will allow me to check out materials at participating libraries in Texas. After returning home, I got the card at my local library, so I'll be able to borrow books at other locations. I don't know if residents of other states would be able to take advantage of this program or not, but for Texas residents with a library card, this can come in handy when visiting out of the way places. Cemeteries
    Pioneer Cemetery image
Far more graves than we expected. Many graves are simply marked with an iron cross. Interesting history related to the area and the people who lived here. Worth a visit! See more..
  17. 3.5 Rattlers & Reptiles (53 reviews)
    - New and Improved.
    Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM Zoos
    Rattlers & Reptiles image
Two years ago we stopped here. Motorcycle parts littered the grounds. I went inside to check it out and decided to NOT bring me kids inside due to the conditions. Fast forward to 2020. As we drove past I noticed the grounds had been cleaned so I stopped for a look. Inside was completely cleaned out. The displays were nice and informative. Snakes well cared for. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. I have never seen a more diverse collection of rattlesnakes. So much variety and so beautiful. If you look at all the poor reviews you will see they are from “before.” For the small town of Fort Davis this is definitively worth the admission. See more..
  18. 1.0 Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch (1 review)
    - Worst Scout Camp Director Ever
    Hiking & Camping Tours
06-27-2022 Cris this year's director is the worst director let alone person you want your staff leader around or children to be under him at any camp! Very unprofessional and siding on child endangerment. I will be taking this year's camp actions of his and others to the top council of Scouts and possibly State authorities. If you have family members there you need to get them home to safety. See more..
