I would 100% come here if you are looking to dive into another culture. Bird is such a great host and really fun to be around. I volunteered on his farm and through working on his land and learning about farming and permaculture, I felt such peace being there. If you are looking for beautiful scenery and looking to explore Thailand's countryside, COME HERE. See more..

Wat Si Mongkhon (Wat Kong) image
We really enjoyed the visit to this monastery. There's a lot to see apart from the fine Buddha statue in the ordination hall. In the spacious grounds you can play at see saw made from old wagon wheels, sit on wooden carved motor scooters, admire life size black elephants (and an ancient cannon) and visit the museum on two floors where, apart from finding ancient radio sets and Walkmans are a particularly fine Buddha statue, a goddess of mercy and a life like waxwork monk. Lots of photo opportunities and grownups and children will love the place . I recommend 1 - 2 hours. You can also buy reasonably priced refreshments. See more..

Yeah it's all a bit contrived but these people are working and carrying on their culture. It was interesting to see each tribes unique dress and activities without trekking through a jungle. A living museum I suppose. All in all a good visit See more..

    Mae Charim National Park image
We did some out of season rafting on the Wa river, taking a leisurely 7-8 hours to drift down and enjoy the amazing forested steep riverbanks. Probably one of the most beautiful rivers in Thailand. The rapids were fun but occasionally a bit too shallow but the getting out and pushing and pulling was part of the fun. We stayed in a picturesque little home stay in the rice fields at Mae Charim town belonging to a local policeman's wife (her sister was the agent for the rafting tour and had been recommended to us by the place we stayed in Nan Very beautiful area, but bear in mind there are very few places selling food in the evenings so eat early or arrange meals through the home stay. We can recommend the kind of baked chicken they found for us! See more..

  9. 5.0 Pha Phueng Cave (1 review)
    - Grotta "Tham Pha Phueng"
    Caverns & Caves
    Pha Phueng Cave image

  10. 5.0 Phra That Chom Thong (1 review)
    - The golden pagoda on the hill.
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Phra That Chom Thong image
This was our last destination in the year 2021. After a dinner, our guide took us to the top of the hill to worship the Lanna style golden pagoda that contains Buddha relics. The place was super tranquil (since it was already dark). After we had walked 3 times in clockwise direction around the pagoda to pay respect, our guide asked us to perform a local ceremony. We launched two floating lanterns on the last night of the year to let go all bad lucks. Before we left the place, we also visited and paid respect to a shrine of a couple who is believed to have built the place. Actually, this place is a good viewpoint to see a panoramic view of the town (but we couldn't, since it was already dark). See more..
  11. 5.0 Hey Temple (1 review)
    - The name of the place.
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Hey Temple image
We felt kind of "funny"when we first heard the name of the temple from our guide, since it is very rude word in Thai (and this place is in Thailand). However, the name is actually derived from a local dialect for calling a certain type of bamboo that grow around this temple in the past. The almost 300 year old small temple is not popular among tourists. There were only 4 of us at the time when we visited ! (may be COVID pandemic?). Even so, the Lanna style tranquil temple impressed us with its gorgeous decoration. At the entrance to its hall lie statues of a pair of white Nagas and molded figures of 2 monks holding alms bowl. Each of its doors and windows is embellished with beauteous silver bas-relief of guardian angels. Inside the hall, there are colorful murals about history of the temple and Buddha's biography. Also, we strolled around the place to absorb a nice rural ambience and enjoy a view of greenish field with mountainous background. See more..
