    Wineries & Vineyards
    Fedor Malik & Son image
Myself and my girlfriend booked a wine tasting with this guy and arrived in Modra expecting to be part of another commercial wine event... we were so wrong. Fedor conducts the tasting in the back garden of his beautiful home. With various cellars hidden under the house and garden he produces absolutely AMAZING wine from the family's vineyards outside the city. Sitting in his garden, his family around gardening and playing, under the almond trees, talking about and drinking his amazing wines was the most perfect afternoon I can remember.....Fedor and his father Fedor Snr. have created a little piece of wine heaven... cannot recommend highly enough See more..

A short 15 minute walk from Bratislava city centre, this beautiful little church is well worth a visit. This church wouldn't look out of place in Disneyland but be sure to check opening times as it is only open briefly throughout the week. We were informed that lots of wedding couples come here to have their photographs taken outside this very picturesque place, but in the limited time we were there we unfortunately didn't see any. Devin Castle image
Located a few miles west of Bratislava. Devín Castle ranks among the most important archeological sites in Central Europe. Located at the banks of the Danube, where once the Danube and Amber Roads intersected, it watches over the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. Archeological research proves the area was settled about 7000 years ago and has since then been populated by one group or another, almost without interruption until today. Already during prehistory, it was a fortified center of power. During the Roman period the first several brick buildings were erected here. The first written source on Devín dates back to 864 and mentions a “Dowina Castle”. The Great Moravian period saw the erection of a church with colorful interior wall painting on castle grounds. Throughout the Middle Ages the Castle was an important border fortress, often passing from one noble family to another. In 1809 the Castle was intentionally demolished using explosives. In 1961 Devín Castle was declare See more..

This impressive monument is situated on the top of a hill just about a 25min walk from the old town, this does consist of some steep hills and a lot of steps! However once at the top the views over Bratislava are amazing and the WW2 monument is amazing. We were lucky enough to arrive between 2 and 4pm when the doors were open and we could go inside, the ceiling is very impressive. Yhe grounds are mass graves with marked headstones on the solo graves and a wall of remberance for all the others who lost their lives. There are no toilets or refreshments available so plan ahead! Hlavne Namestie image
Our visit to Bratislava took place end of December. The main square had a Christmas Market with a magical atmosphere, crowded with the delicious smell of local goodies. Beautiful buildings around, light-up Christmas tree all make this place wonderful. I was surprised by a wide variety of punch at the Christmas Market, so many flavors. When you buy your first glass, you need to pay an extra €2 for the plastic cup with a picture of Bratislava, but when you return it you get your money back. I kept it for 2 days and then got my €2 but you can keep it as a souvenir if you wish. Also, some lovely souvenirs sold on the market or in the cute shops around the square. See more..

  19. 4.5 Ondrej Nepela Arena (105 reviews)
    - Fantastic Experience
    Arenas & Stadiums
    Ondrej Nepela Arena image
We were lucky enough to be visiting while the KHL season was underway. We paid €40 for 2 premium tickets (prestige was sold out and cheaper tickets are available) on the morning of the game. Along the stadium are bars to get pre game drinks and take in the atmosphere of all the home (and away) fans. There is beer and snacks available in the stadium which are reasonably priced for a sporting event and then there was the game itself...! We had never seen an ice hockey game but the crowd, the speed and the intensity immediately get you hooked. Both my girlfriend and I were soon cheering along for Slovan and the night itself was helped along by a golden goal win for Slovan making it 3-2. If you can get tickets then just go. You can't fail to have a good time! See more..

Apparently a local vote suggested the bridge be called chuck Norris bridge but it was rejected in favour of freedom bridge. Easy to get to from Bratislava. 29 bus from under most snp and 30 mins later you are in Devínska. The bridge is a short distance from Devín castle so both could be done in a day. Get off at uhrovecka stop. Cross the road and cut left at the coffee shop. You will see the bridge. Lovely walk across to Austria and the area is full of wildlife. We was 2 nesting storks which was incredible to see. There’s a lovely Austrian chateau you can walk to and some towns nearby. You can also see remnants of the iron curtain. There’s a children’s playground and seated area on Bratislava side and a walking/ cycle route. Buy both bus tickets in Bratislava as we didn’t see machines here. Bus is only 0.90€ each way. - A real must
    Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Castles
    Bratislava Castle image
I can't imagine visiting Bratislava and not making a stop at the castle. In fact we would recommend this as a first stop as the views out over the city and the Danube are splendid and help one gain a perspective of the city. Being able to see both Austria and Hungary from the ramparts is particularly interesting. To hear our guide share her story of venturing into Austria when the Iron Curtain collapsed was eye-opening as she pointed out the close proximity of the city to the border. The castle is very clean and includes free restrooms (not something to take for granted when on the continent). See more..
