   We wanted to get to know the dense jungle of the Darién National Park with its remarkable biodiversity during our trip to Panama. We found our guide Erasmo online and booked the jungle trekking. The four days we experienced together with Erasmo, Jorge and Javier were excellent. We saw special species of birds and frogs - some of them endemic, several species of reptiles and monkeys, as well as footprints of tapirs and many others. The hike up to Cerro Pirre was steep, but very worthwhile and fun. We also visited the Embera village of Pijibasal, where we received a very warm and friendly welcome. We thank Erasmo, Jorge and Javier and the Embera community for the great experience and hope to see you again on another occasion!    We spent two weeks trekking the Darien Gap, encountering Embera Indians (an indigenous people), cutting our way through dense forest, climbing rocky mountains, sleeping in hammocks and bathing in shallow rivers. This is not for the faint-hearted, nor for someone who cannot handle high humidity, strenuous hiking and complete isolation from the world. I found it invigorating, and would go again someday. And, I would recommend exploring with a group as the area has many dangers, especially for the solo traveler.
