   This museum is a must-visit for any travelers in North Kazakhstan. That being said, a working knowledge of Russian or Kazakh would help to fully understand the exhibits. There is one guide who speaks English currently. The significance of Abylai Khan, who essentially unified the Kazakhs for eventual statehood, is portrayed comprehensively with many original artifacts. The site itself is historically important to Kazakh history, as the museum building (ground floor) was the khan's former residence. Located not far from the city center, it is currently letting folks in for free. I can't imagine how long that will last - so make sure you check it out soon! See more..

   The botanical garden features a lovely outdoor portion with swans and other birds. There are smalls structures, pretty flowers, and koi ponds. The indoor portion has other animals and a large enclosed garden full of tropical and desert plants.    Udarnik is the only place to (safely) party in Petropavlovsk. For foreigners, it offers a safe location where fighting is rare. The complex is divided into a restaurant, karaoke bar/club, arcade, movie theater, and raging dance club that keeps going until 6 AM. For Kazakh standards, it can be expensive. Our group enjoyed a table with dinner and all-night bottle service for less than a hundred dollars. There is an Irish pub (without Guinness) across the street that's good for pre-gaming.     The hike up to Kenesary Cave is fairly easy terrain, the scenery is lovely, the cave surprisingly small with a few platforms and nice view of the valley and lake below. Not a must see but interesting for sure and great place to hike and stretch your legs. See more..
