During our trip to Jordan we visited Umm Qais / Gadara and surroundings. Our guide was Ahmad Al Omari, a man we can highly recommend. He was born and raised at the spot, so he can tell you all about it and showed us the view over Golan Heights and Lake Tiberias. The next day we went for a hike with Ahmad. We enjoyed this hike very much, especially because of all the interesting things Ahmad told us about nature and the history of the area. Besides the fact that he has a great knowledge of and love for the region he is a very nice man to have around. And if you want to spend the night in the countryside, book a room in his beautiful homestay. See more..

I have traveled in august as woman alone to Jordan. at jordan beauty tours I have booked a 14-day round trip. We spent several days in amman among others, traveled for a trekking tour further into the wadi, dana, several days petra, dan a jeep tour to Wadi Rum, Aqaba for snorkelling and statements nor to the dead sea to relax. It was a wonderful trip! super organized! During these 14 days ali Hasanat was my guide. He took care of everything and always depended on me. I have no moment felt uncomfortable or unsafe. I know alli very friendly, open people and appreciate. He has a very good empathy. he always took great care of me, even when I was sick two days. He speaks very good English. I would recommend him to anyone (women traveling alone insbesonderem) well! See more..

    UMm Qays Archeological Site image
Lovely castle and Roman ruins, including a remarkably well maintained Roman street from well over a thousand years ago. Total time needed here is two hours and do hire a guide (with a lanyard to ensure it's a certified/registered tour guide). There is also a lovely restaurant you can stop by after visiting this area to have a snack while overlooking the ruins, Jordan Valley and the Sea of Galilei. See more..

This restored Ottoman era building makes a perfect little museum to give historical context for Irbid and north Jordan from the Islamic period to today. Collections include glass, pottery, metallurgy, inscriptions and mosaics. Nice courtyard with benches but no shade at midday. See more..

Things to Do in Irbid Governorate image
From where we parked (maybe the correct entrance), it was about a 15 minute hike to the ruins. A bit treacherous to get down to the pillars, and the guidebook was correct when it says that a bit of imagination is required to get the most out of the site. Important to archaeologists because it reveals evidence of 6000 years of continuous settlement, however, there’s very little to see. The pillars are a nice photo op, but it’s clear that they are later additions. We did this as part of a larger driving tour that took in Ajloun Castle/Forest Reserve and Umm Qais. Even then, we’re not entirely sure that it’s worth the loop out to see it. However, if you’re already nearby, then you could stop by. Best time of year to go is springtime for the flowers. See more..
