  5. 4.5 Prophet Shoaib Shrine (9 reviews)
    - A great day out...
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Prophet Shoaib Shrine image
Visiting Valley of Shuayb, having a nice view of the terrace gardens in the mountains and of course, saying prayers at the mosque adjacent to the shrine of Prophet Shuayb (peace be upon him) was a great day out from Amman. Traveling through the Al-Salt city and having a very nice view of the gardens created on terraces on the mountain side is a great side and it seems people have not wasted even a foot space if it were available. Visit to the shrine of Prophet Shuayb (pbuh) was the highlight of the show. We prayed for the messenger of Allah.... the place had something about it. It was so calm, serine and peaceful. There are not many restaurants close to the tomb area so take your things along if you intend staying there for long See more..

    Al Khader Orthodox Church image
Al Khader Church also known as St. George's Church is situated on a hill in Salt. This is the most visited church in Salt and it is said that miracles have occurred here, and even Muslims are allowed to pray here. The church is quite small but there are no shortage of paintings on the wall. I was the only visitor but i certainly glad i came here. See more..
  9. 4.0 The Baptism Site Of Jesus Christ (1.129 reviews)
    - Nice place, quite long walk, not on your own
    Religious Sites
The Baptism Site Of Jesus Christ image
Not possible to visit on your own. Must wait for the group to be collected as well as the timing. Buses go every 30 minutes with the guide. So if you missed the bus for 2 minutes (as I did), you need to wait 28 minutes for the next one to come. It was extremely hot and required quite long to walk, what was challenging. the first stop was a small museum, after the walk to the baptismal site and than to Jordan river at the Isreali boarder. All secured, If you want you can step in to the water. Great advantage of the guide I had a chance to walk with - made the visit squeezed in time, to avoid the heath. Some time to visit a small church and buy suvenirs afterwards. See more..
  10. 4.0 Abu Jaber Museum (32 reviews)
    - A fascinating and rich history
Spent < 1 hour History Museums
    Abu Jaber Museum image
The Abu Jaber Museum is a great place to visit in the historic city of as-Salt. The building is beautiful and labyrinthine with its stairs and myriad rooms. One of the oldest grand houses of Jordan, from late Ottoman times, it's the perfect place to explore and learn and the history of this city and its people. There are few artifacts or furniture items on exhibit, so it does feel a little sparse, but there is a lot of information available in didactic panels and there are educational spaces for schoolkids. I learned a lot here, and will come back again soon. The tea shop was closed on this visit, but will presumably reopen in busier times. See more..

    - Most interesting street in Salt
    Farmers Markets
    Hammam Street image
Hammam Street is probably the most interesting street in the town and a great place for photography. The street was where the market was established 140 years ago, and it is named after the baths that used to exist here (Hammam meaning bath). Nowadays it is still where the local market is held , everyday of the week, and you can see the local women purchasing their goods there. See more..
