There are two main ways to visit the reserve: by an organizaed tour, or by showing up individually. It is a lot cheaper to just show up (about $20-$30 instead of the $60 plus from an organized tour group), but be sure to know at least a few basic Spanish phrases to make sure that it'll be easier for you. Again, I went during the morning, and had to wait about 25 minutes for a boat to be found, and eventually it was made. First, though, there was a little train ride into the mangrove, and then you get to the actual boat, with a very knowledgable guide. In the park, I saw American crocodiles, caimans, turtles, iguanas, a huge variety of birds, howler monkeys, white-faced capuchins, and even a sloth. Manatees are also an important species, but I didn't get to see one. Cuero y Salado is a remarkable natural area that I highly recommend to others. See more..

Was my first time doing rafting but the team that guides you is really great. You have a little training before you go to the river. If you have a go pro I recommend you to take it because you can film the trajectory and the are some parts were you can record a type of rocks that they call them the whale, if you have a drone there is a bridge where you can take really good videos or pictures to your team. Really good experience, doesn’t matter if you can’t swim there is no problem, with the float you will be safe. I recommend that you wear special shoes where you can wet them. See more..

On my recent trip to Tela, I was looking for a place to go diving. I also had some friends who were interested in snorkeling. Tela Marine Research Center hooked us up! Most of their diving is research diving, but they do a few fun dives a year, so I was able to go. They do regular tours to Punta Sal for $35 (6-hour tour). These tours include a hike through the jungle to spot monkeys (there were so many!) and other native plants and wildlife. Then you head to a beach at Punta Sal to snorkel and hang out. Divers went to a separate location while friends went snorkeling. Tony (the tour guide) and Christian (divemaster) both did a great job at educating us on the work they are doing to rebuild and protect the reef in Tela. I recommend their tours! See more..

We caught a Stephanie bus from the terminal in La Ceiba to San Pedro. The shuttle was comfortable, had air conditioning and even a tv at the front playing music videos. We did 2 half day activities with Omeda Adventures from their jungle lodge. One day horseback riding and the next day was whitewater rafting. Both great experiences. The facilities, equipment and guides were excellent for such a remote jungle experience. We stayed at another lodge about 2 hours away and traveled back and forth for those 2 days. I would really recommend staying at the Omega Lodge as the cabins seemed very nice and you save a lot of travel time to enjoy the many different activities. See more..

Great, fast and clean ferry service. Round trip from La Ceiba to Utila is about $60 USD, (January 2023) slightly more to go farther to Roatan and return. La Ceiba is a very accessible town, most people fly from SAP to La Ceiba. Two lane roads are fine between the two cities. If you're arriving onto Utila, keep in mind there are only golf carts and tuktuk service unless your're walking. If you need a tuktuk driver, reach out to Gustavo at +504 8745 4489. He is honest, will take care of you and can also arrange escorts to various sites on the island. Once you arrive to Utila, there are a swarm of TukTuks and it's hard to figure out which one to take since you have to barter unless the hotel is paying for the tuktuk service. See more..
