Amazing...I'm so glad I went! Possible without a car if willing to walk.
To travel to the sanctuary, see the end of this review. Must visit! The bears are precious and their cause is compelling. The guide is very knowledgeable and really enriches the experience. I just finished school but once I start work I plan to donate more to the sanctuary. Getting there from Brasov: it's possible to do without a car or taxi although slightly less convenient. Take a train to Zarnesti but get off at Tohanu Vechi to shorten your walk. If you get off at Tohanu Vechi, walk out to the street, turn right and walk for a few minutes until you get to a sign on your left for the beat sanctuary (it will be just after you pass an arch leaving Zarnesti). Then you walk up the hill about 20 or 30 minutes depending on your speed and you'll be at the sanctuary! Alternatively, from Brasov you can take a train to Zarnesti and then hire a taxi from the train station. If you get off at the Zarnesti stop it's about 8km walking (1.5 hrs). Also, the walk up the hill to the sanctuary is stunning, lovely views of the Carpathians and the surrounding area. Be advised that the train stations in Zarnesti do NOT accept card payment, so either have cash, buy a round trip ticket from Brasov, or use the app to purchase your ticket.

    Great experience
Impressive stories of the bears, our guide was very nice and offered us a lot of information, also responded to all of our questions. It was an awesome experience to see how a bear who spend over a decade în captivity is discovering that life isn't about riding the bike or entertain few people in circus or zoo. Here they are discovering the true freedom. The staff seems to be very attached of each bear, offering them all the food and the medical assistance they need. We will recommend this place to visit, it changed our perception about this wonderfull animals.
