Stunning Place

Another stunning little city, Romania really is blessed with so many delightful, historical towns & cities. Sibiu, with a population of circa 150,000, is fairly large, but the old centre, where the bulk of the sites of interest reside, is pretty compact & well suited to walking. Split between an upper & lower section, the primary sites include 3 main squares, the principal pedestrianised thoroughfare, Strada Nicolae Balcescu, picturesque Bridge of Lies, plus various churches (my favourite being The Holy Trinity) & other buildings of architectural importance. Look out for the Houses with Eyes! Ample restaurants, cafes, hotels & museums too, in addition to the remaining towers & walls encircling parts of the city. Unsurprisingly given its history, Sibiu has a strong Germanic flavour. It’s immaculate, orderly & beautiful.

    The "EYE"s are watching you!!
    Sibiu, Romania is a lovely Eastern European town much similar to some of the Western European towns we love so much. As in some architectural buildings elsewhere, here and there you see arched, or eyebrow windows mostly in roofs, but in Sibiu, they are everywhere you look. The word there is the "eyes" are watching you. It is an interesting story about why so many of those eyes abound in this wonderful, architecturally delightful town. When you go, be sure to hear the story there from the locals or from your guide if you are traveling with one. Enjoyed Sibiu, hope you do too.
