Castelul Corvinilor, Transylvania, Romania
4.5 (973 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #1 in Transylvania Castles
One of Europe's largest castles, a must see in Romania
Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle or Hunedoara Castle, is a Gothic-Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. It is one of the largest castles in Europe and is featured as one of the Seven Wonders of Romania. Although it is mostly in renovations, i have visited this place many times, and is always on the list when in the area (even if we do not go inside). History, medieval castle, museums. 2 hours is plenty to visit the whole castle (if you do not count the adjacent museums which are included in the ticket price).

Castle-tastic
We visited here as part of an organised tour in August 2022. From the outside, the castle is obviously stunning - pretty much exactly as you’d expect a fairytale castle to look. We bought our tickets online to save having to queue at the entrance so that’s worth doing. Across the drawbridge and into the castle and you enter the courtyard. A lot of this was under renovation when we were there which was a little disappointing. Inside, there is some info in English and Romanian and it’s worth checking out the different rooms, one of which has photos / paintings of how the castle looked over the centuries. It’s been renovated that many times that it can be hard to see the original purpose of some rooms. The inside definitely isn’t as impressive as the outside but there’s a lot to walk around and see inside if you want to.

Impeccable Castle
This was a castle that we’ve wanted to visit for sometime now, and it was so much more beautiful than expected. The castle is very open and spacious with lots to see and explore. The castle seems very traditional and original. The only negative is that during our visit there was lots of construction work going on which meant parts of the castle were off limits and covered in scaffolding. There are a number of stalls just outside the castle selling souvenirs and snacks. Unfortunately the area surrounding this castle is very run down and industrial. There is no official parking for this attraction. Although there is a paid car park about 2 minutes walk away. This is reasonably priced at 10 Leu a day. This car park seems quite safe as there was an attendant there and also some small stalls selling souvenirs.
