Lengkuas Island, Sumatra, Indonesia
4.5 (668 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #3 in Sumatra Islands
Another checklist ticked!!
Lengkuas Island located in the waters of the Belitung Island, and is about 30 minutes away by boat from Tanjung Kelayang beach or Tanjung Binga in District Sijuk, Belitung. In Lengkuas Island there is Lighthouse, built by Dutch colonial in 1882 and still actively working for marine navigation. Visitors must wash feet with fresh water before entering the lighthouse buildings constructed of steel, because the sea water can cause rust on the building. From the lighthouse, you can see beauty of the white sandy beaches on the island with giant granite rocks and clear sea water greenish.

Nice But Trash Is Everywhere
Lengkuas Island is one of the must-visit small islands near Belitung. We spent approximately 20 mins with fisherman's boat to come to this island. At first we swam and did snorkeling close to the beach area, the water is crystal clear and the fish are very familiar with tourist. My tour guide prepared biscuit for them (hopefully doesn't do any harm!) so they swim closer to where we are. For Lengkuas island itself, we could also do snorkeling just approx. 20 meters from the beach, the fish swim really close to the edge and if we are lucky enough, we could see some small transparent jellies swimming peacefully. One bad thing.. Obviously the trash problem! I have to admit that this isn't that bad like other tourism parts in Indonesia, but still unacceptable. The sand is such soft carpet kind of type, but unfortunately cans, plastics are everywhere. This is such big problem for the local government as well as local people. I spoke some time with the fishermen, they said it is the responsibility from the workers of health and environment minister (send from HQ), but apparently they don't do the job that good. For whosoever read this and have the capability to contact them, Please consider this serious matter not merely for earning tourism money, as well as for the sustainable and green environment. P.S Don't be fooled by the beauty of my pictures, I took obviously the clean side.

don't expect too much but
I think it's worth comming here. The beach is great as every where in Belitung. And it's worth clinmbing up the light house in order of the view. The eateries around a very simple but cheap. I think you should give it a try.
