    Remarkable Hilltop Fortification
Buton Fortress is possibly the most impressive fort of precolonial Indonesia. The scale of the fortifications are remarkable, encircling the whole top of the hill and commanding extraordinary views out to sea. The walls are well-preserved and mounted by numerous old cannons. There are also tombs, wooden houses and a historic mosque within the walls. Allow a couple of hours to explore the whole fortress properly.
