The Marshal of Finland Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim (1867-1951) was a very important person in Mikkeli. He had his headquarters in Mikkeli in all the wars of independent Finland: the War of Independence, the Winter and Continuation Wars. This striking bronze sculpture by sculptor Kalervo Kallio was unveiled on the 100th anniversary of Mannerheim's birth on June 4, 1967.
