Impressive statue
The Marshal of Finland Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim (1867-1951) was a very important person in Mikkeli. He had his headquarters in Mikkeli in all the wars of independent Finland: the War of Independence, the Winter and Continuation Wars. This striking bronze sculpture by sculptor Kalervo Kallio was unveiled on the 100th anniversary of Mannerheim's birth on June 4, 1967. Since 2003, the statue has been standing next to Mikkeli Market Square.
