Stopped to visit Escorial whilst driving between Toledo and Segovia. Originally booked conducted tour in English through "Tiquets.com" who charged us £52.30 for 2. Chose this as they said the guide would meet us at the entrance and we would skip any queue. The night before, we were furious to receive an email from Tiquets saying there were insufficient numbers to make up an English tour, so they had cancelled it, refunded our money, leaving us high and dry, or so we thought. This turned out to be good news in the end as we decided to do it ourselves. We arrived at the Escorial about 11:00 on a Tuesday morning. Parked on the free parking area on Calle Calleja Larga and walked 300 yards to entrance. There were no crowds. We walked straight in and bought 2 English conducted tour tickets for 20 euro (senior citizen rate), which started at 11:30. The tour lasted 2 hours and took us all around the main building. It was fantastic. The only potential problem with doing it this way would be if there was a queue but I suppose the earlier you get there, the better it is. See more..

This basilica is a work of art. The first chapel on the left has a fresco by a young Goya before he was famous. We took the guided tour which was very informative and our tour guide was superb. The gentleman had a great voice, was eloquent, and had a very organized tour which was easy to follow. Admission was €5.00 per person which was a bargain given the quality of the tour and the beauty of the basilica. Our tour was in Spanish and I don’t know if there are tours in other languages available. We went on a Wednesday at opening hour and purchased tickets onsite with a credit card. There were no lines and we had the place all to ourselves for a while. The staff here is most welcoming and helpful. There is also a painting by Francisco de Zurbarán here. Pictures don’t do this basilica justice and should be seen in person. We highly recommend a visit here. See more..

The church is a pleasant place with history. Here you can see one of the few religious paintings of Goya. Impressive painting of the Assumption of Mary. It was commissioned by his brother Camilo, who was a priest in this parish. The church is very large and when you go out to the square you have spectacular views of Chinchon and the castle as well as the clock tower which is nearby. See more..

Together with its tower bell, Oidor Chapel is the oldest remaining part of former Santa Maria church which was once situated south of Plaza de Cervantes. This church, that underwent numerous changes, was initially laid down upon a 13th century shrine called San Juan de Letran, one of the oldest of Alcala, where city`s nobility used to be buried. It is the place that holds the baptistery in which Miguel de Cervantes was baptized in the Catholic faith, on October 9, 1547. The original baptismal certificate that gives evidence is still preserved and showed every year in his baptism date. Entrance is free and it wont`t take a lot to visit because it was just one chapel of the church destroyed during war of 1936-39. Plaza Rodriguez Marin (where is Chapel`s entrance) is actually conserved ground floor with apses of demolished Santa Maria church building. See more..

The Monastery/Convent of San Bernardo is located next to the “Palacio Arzobispal” who is on the end of the “Calle de Santiago”. Unfortunately it was also closed on the moment of our visit, so we just can show you some pictures from the outside, who shows you the place in front of the convent and you also have garden surrounding with two statues in it, you have to see this as an amplification of the “Palacio Arzobispal”. Which makes of this convent also an interesting place to visit in Alcalá de Henares. See more..

La iglesia Parroquial de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora, está ubicada en San Martín de la Vega, en su casco histórico, en la parte más antigüa del pueblo, concretamente en la Calle de la Iglesia. Es una pequeña iglesia del siglo XVI con planta rectangular, con una sola nave y cabecera plana. A los lados del crucero las capillas y la sacristía. Tiene un interior sencillo, a la vez que bonito y agradable, su decoración con piedra en tonos suaves, y está equipada con bancos de madera. A destacar la capilla del siglo XVIII, dedicada a la Virgen del Rosario.

En su exterior destaca su alta y esbelta torre, una torre de ladrillo de planta cuadrada de cuatro cuerpos, que se remata con un chapitel de pizarra de traza barroca.

Esta sencilla iglesia está declarada, Bien de Interés Cultural, en la categoría de Monumento.

Todo lo que tiene de apagado por fuera lo tiene de luminosa por dentro.

Me gusto mucho los vitrales que tiene esta parroquia, en particular sus murales también me parecen muy buenos desde el punto de vista del arte sacro. Me gusto también que cuenta con un diseño moderno que me impresiono mucho cuando lo visite. Si eres católico y pasas por españa esta iglesia te gustara mucho.
