We called in advance to book a shuttle for our Suwanee River kayak adventure. John, Tricia and Augie were so professional and informative. We were camping at Steven Foster, Augie picked us and our kayaks up right at the appointed time at the park took us to the launch point. We had a beautiful paddle, called John as we approached the take out, Angie was there in mere minutes and took us and boats back to the state park. So professional and friendly all for a modest price. Thank you for helping us create that magical Suwanee River memory. See more..

Spacious and beautiful, there are so many things to see and do. The campground is outstanding with privacy, level, and wonderfully clean, updated bathhouse. The museum was so informative, I didn't realize all the songs Steven Foster wrote. The carillon Tower is magistic and plays music several times a day. Suwanee River views, trails to hike or bike. The town and White Sulphur Springs are just outside the entrance. If you want to kayak the river, use Americian Canoe they have everything you need. See more..

I knew the music, did not know Stephen Foster wrote all of it. I sang all these songs growing up, Oh, Susanna, Camptown Races, etc. This was a small but well worth it museum. The grounds are beautiful. The bell tower, one of a kind. If you are visiting the north part of Florida you should make time to visit this museum and park. See more..

    - A nice, easy walk along the banks of the Suwanee River
    State Parks
    Big Shoals State Park image
Big Shoals is a surprise section of the river, where it drops nine feet in less that a quarter mile, creating Class 3 rapids. That is amazing for Florida. The park is located in a state forest so it is very isolated and quiet. The two-and-a-half-mile round trip is along the river, but we didn’t always see it through the vegetation. After spending time out in the southwest, the profusion of vegetation was almost overwhelming. We loved it. We are back in Live Oak and Spanish Moss country. There is a bat house at the beginning of the trail to the Big Shoals. Unfortunately, we did not stay till dusk to see them flying out. We did see a large number of mushrooms in all colors. See more..
  7. 4.0 Big Shoals Trail (5 reviews)
    - The Woodpecker bike trail can be accessed from Big Shoals.
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
    Big Shoals Trail image
The Woodpecker trail is a 6.8 mile (round trip) paved bike trail through the woods. It is not used much, and frequently you can bike the entire trail and only see one other couple. It's wonderful for taking children, as it is a very easy flat ride, through native Florida. There is a porta- potty at the "Little Shoals" end and a rest room at the Big Shoals end. The cost is only $4 per car with up to 8 people in the car. At a leisurely pace it will take 45-60 min. round trip. There are a couple of benches along the way to stop and rest if desired. See more..
