This is a hidden gem in Homestead. I’ve been to many antique shops around the country but this one is truly a charm. Once you step inside it’s like you’ve traveled back in time. The owner Margaret has created a special place. Each room has displays of different antiques. The kitchen room is full of vintage kitchen items and lovely vintage linens. In the main room she has an amazing assortment of antique and vintage jewelry. This is by far one of my favorite places to shop. See more..

    Annual Homestead Championship Rodeo image
We got to the rodeo early to admire all of the beautiful horses and costumes. The stadium was pretty full, admission was $20 for adults and $14 for children they accepted credit cards and parking was $5. I was pretty impressed that they got us in and out of the rodeo so quickly and easily. They were Porta potty’s near the grandstands, lots of food vendors with reasonably priced barbecue, Indian tacos, beer, and ice cream. The Girl Scouts with selling cookies, the Lions had a raffle and the Boy Scouts were selling soda, water, popcorn and cotton candy in the stands. For over three hours we were amused with events from Bareback riding, steer wrestling, bull roping, Girls and women competed in the barrel racing, team roping, Down roping and bull riding. This is the largest rodeo in the south with contestants and participants from all around the country. People in the stands were from South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and the country. There were events for children; Many were adorable wearing cowboy clothing with toy guns. They competed in a dance contest, caught shirts shot into the stands, rode the electric bull and watched the monkeys wrangling sheep. There was a section with chairs & ramps for physically challenged. A really really nice & memorable day! See more..

At the south entrance nearest to Homestead, inside the Ernest F. Coe VIsitor's Center, there is a new gallery which features work by AIRIE Fellows. Artists in Residence in Everglades hosts visual artists, writers, performers, musicians and dancers for one month, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in this wild beauty, and learn first hand its ecology, history and challenges. Their work is then incorporated into exhibitions in the AIRIE Nest such as a recent one, "About Florida Bay", which featured contemporary artworks, videos and poetry, that addressed this body of water between the Everglades and the Florida Keys, home to imperiled fish and bird life. Stop in the Coe Center and make sure to spend time in the AIRIE Nest to make sure that your visit to the Everglades includes the insight of an artist. See more..

The wait in line for their famous Cinnamon rolls wasn't bad at all. While waiting, I can to get us a strawberry milkshake- very tasty. Their Cinnamon rolls were delicious; I will have to update the review once we had their cookies, cheesecake and cheese bread. Picking our own tomatoes was a lot of fun (strawberries weren't ready yet) and their price seemed reasonable ($1.85 per lb). Friendly staff! See more..

    Everglades Outpost Wildlife Refuge image
I booked a 1 hour private tour and it far exceeded my expectations. First off, my tour guide Amanda was so nice and incredibly knowledgeable about all the animals. You can tell she’s genuinely concerned about the animals well being and the animals love her. Well, the lemur for some reason has a grudge against her but I didn’t ask why:) The highlight for me by far was Chandlers snakes, especially the white cobra. My goodness. I had the pleasure of meeting that dude and he’s a genuine guy as well. I’m guessing this is why his snakes don’t bite him. When it was over I looked at my watch and my 1 hour private tour was over 2 hours! See more..

A nice afternoon at a family friendly rodeo & the largest in south Florida. There was plenty of parking, it was an easy in and out. We paid $5 to park & adult admission was $25, $14 for children. Credit cards were accepted. There were clean Porto potties, brochures, lots of food vendors with scouts selling popcorn, water and cotton candy in the bleachers. The bbq platters were huge & smelled delicious. We enjoyed sharing an Indian taco, it was enough for two. The day started with bare back riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, down roping, bull riding and young woman racing around barrels. The Contestants came from all over the country to compete. Visitors were from Europe, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. We enjoyed the events, crowds, foods ... the day! See more..

  29. 4.0 Dante Fascell Visitor Center (2 reviews)
    - Excellent Staff and Nature Walk
    Sunday: Visitor Centers
    Dante Fascell Visitor Center image
I stopped at the Biscayne National Park visitor center for a brief visit as I only had about an hour available. I walked through the indoor exhibits and learned a great deal about the bay and it’s flora and fauna. The staff were extremely friendly and provided a lot of information (and bug spray) about the park and activities available. The weather was rainy, but I did take a walk along the boardwalk and through the mangroves along a jetty to get better views of the bay. While a boat trip is preferable in Biscayne National Park, this was a nice place to stop considering I only had a little time available. Next time, armed with a better knowledge of the boat tours and snorkeling available, I plan to see more of this park. See more..
