The Pinelands Trail is near, its another half mile boardwalk, but the environment is pine forest. You also have the Mahogony Hammock Trail also half a mile an almost Tarzan movie setting. Renaissance Antiques image
This is a hidden gem in Homestead. I’ve been to many antique shops around the country but this one is truly a charm. Once you step inside it’s like you’ve traveled back in time. The owner Margaret has created a special place. Each room has displays of different antiques. The kitchen room is full of vintage kitchen items and lovely vintage linens. In the main room she has an amazing assortment of antique and vintage jewelry. This is by far one of my favorite places to shop. See more..
  7. 5.0 Annual Homestead Championship Rodeo (1 review)

    Annual Homestead Championship Rodeo image
We got to the rodeo early to admire all of the beautiful horses and costumes. The stadium was pretty full, admission was $20 for adults and $14 for children they accepted credit cards and parking was $5. I was pretty impressed that they got us in and out of the rodeo so quickly and easily. They were Porta potty’s near the grandstands, lots of food vendors with reasonably priced barbecue, Indian tacos, beer, and ice cream. The Girl Scouts with selling cookies, the Lions had a raffle and the Boy Scouts were selling soda, water, popcorn and cotton candy in the stands. For over three hours we were amused with events from Bareback riding, steer wrestling, bull roping, Girls and women competed in the barrel racing, team roping, Down roping and bull riding. This is the largest rodeo in the south with contestants and participants from all around the country. People in the stands were from South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and the country. There were events for children; Many were adorable wearing cowboy clothing with toy guns. They competed in a dance contest, caught shirts shot into the stands, rode the electric bull and watched the monkeys wrangling sheep. There was a section with chairs & ramps for physically challenged. A really really nice & memorable day! See more..

If you are visiting South Florida, the Everglades are a must. This national park is an hour from downtown Miami and its expansive, subtle beauty is unlike anything you have ever seen. At the south entrance nearest to Homestead, inside the Ernest F. Coe VIsitor's Center, there is a new gallery which features work by AIRIE Fellows. Artists in Residence in Everglades hosts visual artists, writers, performers, musicians and dancers for one month, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in this wild beauty, and learn first hand its ecology, history and challenges. Their work is then incorporated into exhibitions in the AIRIE Nest such as a recent one, "About Florida Bay", which featured contemporary artworks, videos and poetry, that addressed this body of water between the Everglades and the Florida Keys, home to imperiled fish and bird life. Stop in the Coe Center and make sure to spend time in the AIRIE Nest to make sure that your visit to the Everglades includes the insight of an artist. See more..
