This Dominican convent is a place to marvel and contemplate. This neogotic complex is openend in 1901 and consists of a church and monastery. There are Catholic celebrations each weekend and also a lot of spirtual and philosophical activities during the week. This church is daily opend for visitors (tuesday-saturday 13.30-16.30). Special features of the church are the stained glass windows almost all made by a dominican brother. You can see the inspiration of the worldfamous stained glass windows in Chatres in one of the windows. The beautiful mosaic floor in the choir of the church celebrates the creation of the world with the four elements of the earth and the constellations. It's located just outside the citycanals in the district Assendorp at the beginning of the Assendorperstraat. A street with nice shops as well. It's a 10 min walk from the station Zwolle or citycenter and a nice way to see more of Zwolle than only the tourist highlights. See more..

We found this place and stopped for a light lunch. We sat outside and had superb views of their occupied stork's nest as we took our break. Quite special and lovely. We had pancakes which were tasty and enjoyed. Good price too Service was okay. There seemed to have been some new staff who caused problems but it was all resolved easily and with good humour. We visited Djambo with our 18month old daughter. Kids ages seemed to vary from 2-8yrs old at the time we were there. Cafe supplied us nice English tea, they did have to search for some milk though! Totally understandable. €10.50 was the entrance fee (unsure if that includes a small adult fee?) Was definitely worth coming, lots of activities including large soft play jungle gym & smaller baby/toddler version. Lots of tables to sit at, plenty of room. This tower will give you the best view in the city of Zwolle. The staff were absolutely lovely, friendly and courteous. It is only 3.50 euro and after you pay you just wait 5 mins for one of the staff to open the door to the tower and let you in. The church is small and will only take 5 to 10 mins. The tower climb should take no more than 30 mins to go up and down, read the information panels and enjoy the views while taking pictures. If there is one place to get the best panoramic views of Zwolle, this place is it! I visited every place in Zwolle that had views over the city and this one was the best. See more..

This is a lovely part, although with nothing so remarkable that would tear you away from Zwolle's old town. The walk there (thank you Google maps) took me by some very large older brick homes, under a bridge, and along a waterway with houseboats - pretty nice! The park's greatest attraction were picnic tables by the intertidal area and waterway (I don't know one from another here, ashamed to say). The restaurant, closed Monday, also offers that view. Lots of walking trails with some shade cover. Very peaceful feeling, yet the park was well used with others around - large enough to feel peaceful. See more..

The store on top is a party store. Look for the address plate on the outside of the shop that lets you know the museum is there. The owner is extremely friendly and invested. He, after all, is a SInterklaas himself. He showed me where the museum was and told me a bit about himself and about Zwolle's tradition and asked where I was from. He allows you to look around the tiny museum at your leisure. If you do not know about Zwart Piet you may want to look into it before you go because he is definitely a different entity than we have in the states and that part of the collection may make you curious or change your impression of the museum. There are a few small items for sale that are Sinterklaas related. If you love Santa or different holiday traditions around the world then I recommend you stop by if you are in Zwolle. The fee is super reasonable. It will not take much time out of your visit and since I was visiting at the holidays it seemed a great time to go by. See more..

This is a very special mill as it is one of the two windmills in the Netherlands that produce oil, here is the flaxseed oil. We could only enjoy it from outside as it was not open on sundays. Bought ticket online which was easy and quickly done. 20 min walk from Zwolle train station. Only found out afterwards that there was a free bus ride to and from the station to the event. The hall with all the ice sculpture was like -10 deg and it was busy inside and a bit over crowded for my liking. But besides that it was very well layed out and some brilliant sculptures which must of taken some time to produce. An event well worth visiting I believe. See more..
