Beautifully restored windmills almost 300 years old. Number 4 is from 1722. Testament to the Dutch drive to use land in an efficient way. First peat was dug out. When the pools filled with water, it was pumped out and a polder emerged. Agriculture is still ongoing in the surroundings of the mills, though since 1953 they only function to show the technique is still working well. Nearby Gemaal de Graaff has taken over their job. Easy to reach by bicycle from Rotterdam Central Station; basically follow the Rotte river bank (17km). See more..
