   We hired Konito for a 75 minute tour of the Windmills,cheese factory and clog making factory at Zaandijk. He met us at the restaurant in the village and proceeded to give us a wonderful informative tour of the area. He went above and beyond sharing all his knowledge of his home town and giving us a trip on the local ferry and a tour of the wonderful old town pointing out houses of historic nature.    We stopped in after visiting Zaanse Schans and it was the perfect ending to our traditional Dutch Experience. Mirjam was very nice and fun. The costumes were great and our son even got to play the accordion. A must do! See more..

   We were visiting Zaanse Schans ans walked over the bridge and saw De Bleeke Dood Molen. Its a beautifully restored 1656 windmill. This was a flour mill from 1633 to 1904 but when this ceased it fell into disrepair. The mill was renovated in the 1950's and again in 2001. Its an imposing sight and can be seen from a distance.    Het mooie pand "Het Weefhuis" is gebouwd omstreeks 1650. Niet als woonhuis, maar als werkplaats waar z.g. schepramen werden geweven, die werden gebruikt bij de papierfabricage. De werkplaats was eigendom van een papierfabrikant Honig(h), die schuin tegenover het weefhuis woonde. De 17e eeuwse werkplaats had oorspronkelijk maar 1 verdieping, de begane grond. Pas omstreeks 1870 werd het gebouw met een verdieping opgehoogd. Het werd toen een woonhuis. De tuin voor het huis, min of meer met dezelfde indeling dateert van begin 19e eeuw. De vijf grote beelden zijn toen ook geplaatst, zij stellen voor Bacchus, Ochtend, Middag, Avond en Nacht. Ook het theehuis zal dateren uit die periode. In 1960 kwamen huis en tuin in het bezit van de gemeente, die er een cultureel centrum van maakte. Daarna diende het huis enige tijd als kantoor van de Vereniging De Zaansche Molen. Begin 21e eeuw kwam het Weefhuis in bezit van de Stichting Het Weefhuis die - na een grondige restauratie- het pand exploiteert als ruimte voor concerten, lezingen, exposities e.d.. "Het Weefhuis" met haar mooie beeldentuin ligt er als een plaatje bij, omgeven door de prachtige Zaanse panden aan de Lagedijk! See more..
