   We made the right choice by visiting Volendam. It was about 30 mins ride by bus from Amsterdam centraal station. Very easy to take the bus. We took the bus 316 and stop at the center of Volendam. And then we walked about 10 mins to reach the Marina. The seascape view of the Marina was stunning. The sky suddenly became clear and we got the sun. The place became commercial right now having the mixed between gift shops and cafe and restaurants. We just tried out the fresh seafood that was sold at the road side. The fried cod fish was really impressive especially the cold winter. I would highly recommend to try it if you are there. You won't be regretted. We slowly move our pave through the street from one side to the other side while enjoying the fantastic view. Stopped for a cup of coffee and snack was one of the thing we did during our visited in Marina Volendam. See more..

    The Netherlands are famous for its wooden shoes, and deservedly so: back in 1800, almost everybody owned a pair (or two). Nowadays only around 200.000 Dutchmen and Dutchwomen wear them daily. Their clogs are no longer handmade, machines have taken over. The production process is a bit like making a spare key: the machine traces the outlines of a clog mould and then carves away the excess wood in a fresh block of poplar. In the Wooden shoe factory you can see how this is done. A movie shows you the old manufacturing process and at regular times, the clog maker is there, in his workshop. Wooden shoes are also part of the traditional Volendam costume. In a small exhibit we explain the dress and its many different layers.     This is a must do! Dress up in Dutch traditional clothing and have your picture taken at a very reasonable price. Basic package for 2 persons that consists of 2 copy of the photo in A5 size costs €14. We also got this voucher coupon from the tourist Centre in Volendam that give us a free cd-rom with all our photos.     Midden in een woonwijk, wat ingeklemd tussen de huizen, ligt de Stolpkerk van Volendam, ook wel het Stolphoevekerkje genoemd. Deze protestantse kerk werd in 1658 ingewijd en is het oudste nog bestaande kerkgebouw van Volendam. Na de Reformatie bleef de kleine hervormde gemeenschap van Volendam lange tijd aangewezen op de kerkdiensten in Edam. Pas in 1657 kreeg men toestemming om een eigen "predickhuys, school en woonhuys" te bouwen. Waarschijnlijk omdat de kleine gemeenschap een klein budget had, koos men voor een Stolpkerk, welk type kerk vroeger vaker in Noord-Holland werd aangetroffen. Het kerkje werd gebouwd door een molenbouwer uit Hoorn. Het exterieur is sober. Op het hoge dak een torentje (dakruiter) met luidklok. De gevels zijn van hout, zwart geteerd. Ook het interieur is eenvoudig. Mooi gewelfd plafond met groot afgebeeld de wapens van Volendam, Edam, West-Friesland en Holland. Sobere houten preekstoel. Dit kerkje diende als model voor het (nog bestaande) stolpkerkje in Zuidschermer. Het is nog steeds in gebruik als kerk. See more..
