They made us feel home in the farm and sent us back to the mainland with full heart and a big smile. Even in challenging COVID times and difficult weather conditions, they greatly manage to please guests while maintaining safety. Even 50 jaar terug in de tijd, dat is de eerste indruk die je krijgt als je hier naar binnen loopt. Het is een heel knus en intiem theater. Hooguit plek voor zo’n 50 personen op oude theaterstoelen. This place is a little gem of a museum. It is crammed full of artefacts that have been rescued from the sea off the coast of Terschelling. The explanations are all in Dutch but really you don't need any, just go and view everything on display and it's a real feast for the eyes! Toys, coins, shoes, boxes, life preservers, endless ship related equipment, messages in bottles, one very large purple adult toy, which caused much hilarity with a group of German students and so much more! It is housed both in and outdoors and will take you around an hour to view everything. It's also a great cafe too. This is a must if you are on the island, you will not be disappointed! See more..

Great! There were dozens, if not hundreds, of seals just chilling. The Talisman apparently has an exemption, as opposed to other boats, where they came within a few meters of the shoals. Be a good passenger and person: you should pay attention to the seals: are they hurt, stuck in a fishing net, etc. Also mind your voice: they scare easily. Would recommend! See more..

Well in 2016 it was the first time for me to go to this event. I wanted to go with a friend but she couldn’t make it. When I checked out the website I realised they needed volunteers... I went there about 2 weeks before the event started helped with the build up and then I helped during the event. The time before and during the even were very different but I liked them both. Before was great as you really got to enjoy the beautiful island and worked together with a lovely group of people. During the event I managed to see 18 performances in 10 days. Its a real great event to go to . If you want to see this event on a budget then volunteering is definitely the way to go. See more..

Drenkelingenhuisje - shipwreck house (Drenkeling = drowning man) This typical construction can be found at the north-east coast of the Island of Terschelling. It is located near ‘paal 24’ marker 24, which is about 5.5 km East of Beach pavilion Heartbreak Hotel at the end of the ‘Badweg’ in Oosterend. In 1865 it was approved by the minister of interior affairs that a wooden construction would be erected as a shelter for survivors of shipwrecks. As it is a remote place and a tricky coast with many ships that sank, the shelter would give survivors the ability to spend the first hours there till dawn or till the storm was over. The current shelter is not the original, as it disappeared in a storm in 1962. The cabin you will find now dates from around 2000 and is a very complete replica. It’s a characteristic shelter for Terschelling and very photogenic especially when the clouds and sun cooperate well Getting there; 1. You can walk the 5 km from the dune-crossing (marker 18) at the end of the ‘Badweg’ of Oosterend. 2 By normal bike you can even get closer almost to marker 20 (saves you 2 km of walking) by following the bicycle path that starts near the plaque for ‘Sil de Strandjutter’ which is about 500 meters from the dune-crossing on the ‘Badweg’. You follow the path till the end and walk the last 3 km via the beach. You can actually cycle even further on an unpaved path, but likely the gadflies/horse-flies and mosquitos will drive you crazy. So walking along the beach likely is the better option. 3 you can also rent Beach-bikes (fat bikes) that are allowed to take with you on the beach and have these huge tires. Vanaf Groene Strand kun je wandelen langs het vogelbroedgebied langs het fietspad richting het noorden. Daarna ga je richting westen, en kom je door heel verschillende landschappen: open weiden, duinlandschap, bosjes, langs meertjes. En dan opeens weer open richting de duinen. Fantastisch! En aan het einde de echte duinen naar de Noordzee. Steile korte klim en FANTASTISCH uitzicht. Je kunt dan langs zee lopen, of terug richting westen met andere route terug naar begin (heb ik gedaan).
Ik heb er 2,5 uur over gedaan met veel stops om foto’s te maken. 9,5km. See more..

We walked around the harbour ( haven) in different weather conditions. Normal summer weather, very wind BFT 6 and a rainy day. seeing the wadden with low tide and high tide is great. Watching the surfers just outside the haven was fun. We kayaked from the haven to the top of the eiland and back, that was great fun even spotted a seal. Watching the ferry boat unload and load up is amazing. Seeing how the cars and lorry's are placed into position on the ferry. There are several benches to sit on and just watch the harbour , the boots and the wadden sea. See more..
