  1. 5.0 Hervormde Gemeente Cillaarshoek (1 review)
    - Simple church at historic spot
    Churches & Cathedrals
    Hervormde Gemeente Cillaarshoek image
This small Dutch Reformed church dating from 1615 is along a dyke that for centuries was part of the main route from Amsterdam to Paris. The dyke is named 'Keizersdijk' after emperor Charles V, ruler of Spain and consequently the Dutch low lands. The simple construction of the church reflects the Calvinist mindset of the Dutch people fighting opulent Roman Catholicism imposed by the Spanish rulers. Every Sunday at 10:00 and 18:00 there are services at the church. Cillaarshoek has just 210 inhabitants. See more..
  2. 4.5 Museum Het Land van Strijen (2 reviews)

Museum Het Land van Strijen image
The museum is in an old smithy right across from Lambertus church in Strijen. Farmers from around the village would come here with their horses to get their hooves fixed. A group of enthusiastic local people have transformed the place into an interesting museum that gives you an idea about how Strijen used to be. Downstairs is a dwelling with a genuine 'bedstee' (bedstead) kitchensink, stove, utensils and soaps. Even an old 'plee' (toilet). Upstairs there is an exhibition on Suze Groeneweg, the first female member of the Dutch parliament. She was born in Strijensas and -even though militant socialist- people of all over Hoeksewaard are proud of her. Rightly so. Entrance fee 2€ See more..
  3. 4.0 Lambertuskerk Strijen (1 review)
    - Monumental historic church

    Lambertuskerk Strijen image
Dedicated to saint Lambertus (Christian missionary and former bishop of Maastricht killed in 706). Protestants do not attach great value to saints and simply refer to the church as "Grote Kerk" or just 'kerk'. Ever since 1575 the monumental late Gohic style church is the center of the Dutch reformed community in Strijen. It is a magnificent building built in the 1400s and still dominating the skyline of the village. To visit contact the museum(Land van Strijen) across the road at Kerkstraat 47 See more..
