We visited at 6pm and had the lookout to ourselves. We could clearly hear the birds in the distance and enjoyed the views. The lookout is a 5 minute, easy walk from the road and there is a free telescope at the lookout complete with a poster of birds you might see (in Dutch only). Binoculars are highly recommended. From the harbor of Oudeschild on the island of Texel, a fishing ship departure almost daily for a 2 hour cruise on the Wadden Sea. During the cruise the fishing nets will be lower and pulled along the bottom of the sea When raised, the wonderful underwater sea life will be exposed when starfishes, shrimps, crabs, walrus and many more will be released from the nets. After a short explanation from the ships captain, all but the shrimps will be returned to the sea (the unlucky shrimps will end in boiling water). From the small harbour Oudeschild on Texel, we did a trip with this company that included watching seals and visiting the socalled "Wadden" (parts of lands in the water that are temporarely above the sea level). Before we started it was bad weather with thunder, lightning and heavy rainfall. But the captain said "soon it will be much better". And indeed, shortly after we had departed, the sun started so shine. Visiting the "Wadden" was a great experience, also due to the wonderful clouds and the reflections, very impressive. At those moments you feel tiny in nature, especially when the bad weather started again but it drove away from us. On the way back, we noticed a small groups of seals, not far away from our boat, how exciting! The captain and crew were very nice and helpful, don't miss it! See more..

The company hires beach buggies and tuk-tuks, unfortunately no buggies were available so we hired a tuk-tuk. Great fun and they suit smaller drivers, the Thai drivers are a good fit! Deze verbeelden 'De Storm op het meer' en de 'wonderbaarlijke visvangst' voor. Het is een Rooms Katholieke kerk op het overwegend Nederlands hervormd gerichte eiland Texel. Unfortunately we didn't spot any seals, even though this was the goal of the boat trip. One person on board, with a rather expensive zoom lens managed to spot some seals.... Now I know... I'll first save up for an expensive camera before buying the tickets for the boat :-) However, the trip was interesting enough without spotting the seals. We visited the military harbor of Den Helder and got very interesting information about the various ships there. The captain spoke Dutch and German only. There is a folder available with information in English, however the spelling/grammar is beyond comprehension. It is probably literally translated from Dutch because it simply is written in double Dutch. My teenage son was allowed in the cabin and steer the wheel. He enjoyed that very much. On board there are drinks served, as well as kibbelings (pieces of white fish with dough, fried) and other snacks. 2 hours is long enough. Would have loved seeing the seals... See more..

This fort isn’t very well publicised but is worth a stop if you are in the area. The entrance is off Schansweg, where there is a small parking area and an information board ( in Dutch, German and English). The fort is free to visit during daylight hours. There is not much to see; a few brick entrances, the outline of the walls and a cannon, but there are good views over the countryside. We spent about 30 minutes there in total. See more..
