This fine Protestant church is located in the center of Oud-Alblas. The tower is the oldest part of the structure and dates from around 1400. The tower is, as it were embedded in a newer construction that was built in the mid 1800s. The sober interior reflects the Protestant interpretation of Christianity: pulpit from where the word of God is taught, no distracting sculptures or paintings. Remarkable is the text with the twelve commandments next to the pulpit. The website of the Protestant community mentions that ever since the first minister Hendrikus Swalmius started preaching 400 years ago, more than 40,000 sermons were held in this church. That is to say post-Reformation, as the Christian community started gathering at this place already in the 1400s. See more..
