Built after the Reformation in 1646 as a Protestant church which it still is. The square brick tower dates from the same year. The simple, sober design reflects very well the mindset of the Protestant community at the time: no distraction, no superfluous ornamentation, but focus. Hazerswoude-dorp was built on moor. The surroundings were dug out and as a result are significant lower than the village floor. Note the front door of the church is almost 2 meters above the original ground level. A newly built ramp ensures people with a stroller or in a wheelchair can access the church. See more..
