- 4.0 Movieskoop Hardenberg (7 reviews)
-Boeiend , interessant en leerzaam.
Spent 2-3 hours Movie Theaters
Goede films met inhoud. Meestal films waar je nog dagen over nadenkt en napraat. Soms ga je naar huis met veel indrukken. See more..
- 4.0 Höfkekerk (1 review)
-Appealing religious building
Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
Completed in 1889 and (radically) renovated in 1923 the Höfte church resembles to some extent other dome shaped churches in the Netherlands. It is quite an impressive, appealing structure in the middle of town. The interior is kept sober as in many other Protestant religious buildings. The organ is exceptional and registered as national heritage. See more..
- 4.0 Vechtpark (1 review)
-Enjoyable park area
Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
On entering Hardenberg from the west, you will see the newly developed Vechtpark on your right handside. It is a result of a project to restore the old flow of the river Vecht and to provide more space to the water. At times waterlevels caused the town center to inundate, now it is easier to regulate the flow. Another objective was to give citizens and visitors an opportunity to enjoy nature and space to do sports of different kinds. Waterrich territory, rather flat and (still) without many trees, yet an excellent place for peace and quiet seekers. See more..

-The Beehive
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
The modern city hall of Hardenberg is a compact circular yellowish building located between the center and the Vechtpark. Ever since 2012, the year of its inception it has caused controversy. In 2015 it got a prize for being the "Ugliest Building in the Netherlands" (sample of 5000 votes from among people working in the construction sector). For me the structure does not look out of place and the form (different surfaces in circular composition) is refreshing after having seen so many boring square office buildings in other Dutch cities. Moreover, architects Branimir Medić en Pero Puljiz paid attention to energy efficiency. This is not the reason why locals often call it "de bijenkorf" (the beehive). See more..
- 3.0 Indië monument (1 review)
-Rather one-sided
Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
This small monument dedicated to 6 Dutch soldiers who died in the period 1946 - 1949 in the Dutch Indies / Indonesia is located west of a bridge crossing the Vecht river at the northside of Hardenberg. The text on the sculpture states "onze jongens" (our boys) fought for order and peace, liberating people (from Japanese camps). At the time, just after WOII there were also many of our boys who refused to fight. They were right as it is (now) generally accepted the war in Indonesia fought by the Dutch army to re-establish colonial power was an unjust.war. See more..
- 3.0 Stephanuskerk (1 review)
-19th Century Protestant Church
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals
Completed in 1848 replacing an older 14th century structure. Dedicated to saint Stephanus, according to legend the first Christian martyr who was stoned to death in 35 AD. Stephanus is the patron saint of masons and other professions linked with stones. The church is the lively center of the Protestant community in Hardenberg. See more..
