   Wow, what a find. This old church which was painted my monet has had its Tower restored and you are able to go up and view the whole of Amsterdam. It's about a 45 minute tour of the history of the church tower and you get to climb up through the bells and stand on the 360 viewing platform. Amazing experience and very cheap to do See more..

   Het AGA museum laat de uitvindingen zien van de heer Dalen, een Zweed. Hij vond begin 1900 uit hoe je acetyleengas kon opslaan in cilinders. Deze ging hij gebruiken voor de lampen in o.a. vuurtorens, lichtbakens, treinlampen en militaire lampen. Dit onder het merk AGA.    Het Industrieel Smalspoor Museum laat zien hoe smalspoortreinen in de vorige eeuw hebben bijgedragen aan de industriële ontwikkeling van ons land. Industrieel mobiel erfgoed uit de mijnen, uit de steenfabrieken en van het leger. En natuurlijk het smalspoor dat in het veen gebruikt werd. Het museum maakt gebruik van het historisch tracé van de turftreinen van de firma Griendtsveen. De personentreinen van nu gebruiken voor de rondrit dit spoor van toen, dat o.m. leidt naar de turfstrooiselfabriek en de remise. Twee historische bedrijfspanden die met de locomotieven, het spoor, de bolsterkarren én de omgeving, het grootste industriële erfgoedcomplex van de gemeente Emmen vormen.    Just 1.3 km from Emmen Railway station on the road to Odoorn is this 40m long grave site. Special because of its enclosure (stones in upright position), length and wideness (almost 7m).     There quite a few animals (dozens pf chickens, chicks, deer, donkeys, geese and more) which you can take a look at and feed for €0,50. Next to that there's a playground for toddlers and one for primary school kids, hood but nothing too fancy. The local people running it are friendly and helpful. The small restaurant has snacks and basic drinks for sale and are reasonably priced. Very clean establishment. See more..

    The name of this windmill speaks itself. Grenszicht ( Border view), the eight-sided flour mill is located near the border with Germany. We could climb the mill through the steep stairs and that you need go backwards down the stairs for your own safety. You will see Germany in the distance, quite chilly when you're up there. The mill was renovated and since 2002 there's a museum next to the mill. The museum represents the life round 1920 of the area that was the biggest peat-bog supplier in Europe. The miller are all volunteers that were very passionate to tell you everything you want to know about the local history and the mill. Very glad to make a stop at this place. See more..

    The foundation of the tower is made of boulders. Until about 3m high the tooled boulders support the brick Roman style tower which dates back to the 1200s. The spire and adjacent neogothic church structure are relatively new (20th and 19th century respectively).     The light exhibition is closed but the park is open during a day to public. Despite of the fact that the light exhibition is officially closed, the tickets are still being sold. We were not informed about this fact just found out by a chance. We have asked for a full refund but our refund was refused. Their response was: 'Unfortunately we do not give money back. We will open as soon as the weather is possible and will also continue for another month. It is true that tickets are still for sale. This is because there are people who buy a card to support us in these difficult times. Furthermore, our facebook, instagram and website clearly indicate that we will be closed until at least January 14.' With the current covid situation, I doubt anything will be functionally for another month or so. This is just a rip off to get money out of customers, they should have stopped selling online tickets. We were planning to go this weekend, due to covid we cannot, which we understand but what we do not understand is that they still selling tickets and do not offer refunds for something they cannot deliver. My advice, avoid big time if you do not want to loose your money. See more..

    Like many tourist information offices in the Netherlands, this one in Emmen is more like a shop where maps, brochures and souvenirs are for sale. While just across the border similar places at least provide a leaflet with a map and main attractions, here they only sell items.
