It can be proud of its collection as well as of its volunteers/staff who with passion for their work, love and proud for the collection, welcoming the visitors.     The size of the church is amazing for a small town. There's place for 750 people in the great St Nicolas church of Elburg. Dating back to 1395. Elburg must have been a very small town then. Now there are about 23.000 inhabitants. We were lucky the organ was being played when we visited. It has a lovely sound. Because of its size, the church has great acoustics as well. The paintings on the ceiling are a sheer delight. One can climb the tower. We did not, preferring the calm and quiet and the organ music. There a very informative leaflet in Dutch and in English. The church is located just off the main street of Elburg. It's visible from all sides of the old town of Elburg and beyond, because of its tower. We parked at the Schootveld parking, at the edge of the old town. Parking is free of charges. The church is maybe 5 minutes on foot from the parking. It's not a place for a pick nick. It's a church.     De vlucht werd uitgevoerd door Heliair. Onze piloot heeft ons uitgebreid laten zien wat we wilden. Echt een aanrader.
    Een verbeterpunt: we hadden een landingsplaats naast het huis van een collega afgesproken om hem te verassen. Dat ging allemaal lukken, is ons gemeld. 4 uur voor vertrek krijgen we door dat de helikopter niet op die plek mag landen omdat de uren vol gevlogen zijn binnen dat gebied. Was de verrassing weg. Toen bij Heliair in Harskamp vertrokken, wel zeer vriendelijke mensen en verder prima naar de zin gehad. See more..

    The area popular by the tourists is mostly the main street within the fortifications; the Jufferstraat and the Vischpoortstraat. This is a pedestrianised area where most cafes and restaurants in Elburg are. But if you are tired of the tourist throngs, the overloaded outdoor seating areas and bicycle riders in lycra or normal clothes, scattering pedestrians left and right, try walking a street parallel at the Jufferstraat, I mean the Bloemstraat. You will encounter almost no tourists, and lo and behold, there is the speciality shop "De plantage". Coffee, tea, oil, vinegar, chocolate and much more is for sale; an ideal shop to compose in impressive present. But there is more. The friendly owner has placed a couple of tables and some chairs in front of his shop, where he will serve coffee or tea and possibly some Italian delicacies for a modest price. It is the most relaxing place in Elburg. A well earned four points rating with something to spare. See more..

    Het Gruithuis behoort tot de oudste gebouwen in Elburg. De naam is ontleend aan de verzamelnaam voor bierkruiden, gruit. Dit pand werd rond 1400 gebouwd iov ene Pelgrim van Putten, pachter van de bierrechten in Elburg. Daar waar bier indertijd een belangrijke drank was (water was doorgaans verontreinigd en kon niet worden gedronken) was pachter van de bierrechten een belangrijk ambt. Pelgrim dan ook een voornaam uitziend pand bouwen, als kantoor voor de inning van de accijns op bier en opslag van de bierkruiden, w.o. de geimporteerde hop. Het pand heeft enigszins het uiterlijk van een versterkte stadswoning. Vandaar ook de arkeltorentjes op de hoeken, gezien de grootte uitsluitend voor effect geplaatst, want te klein om een bewaker te huisvesten. Het pand verloor in de loop der tijd haar oorspronkelijke functie. In de 17e eeuw was het enige tijd stadsboerderij. Midden 20e eeuw werd een omvangrijke restauratie verricht, waarbij het gebouw weer haar oorspronkelijke uiterlijk kreeg. Mooi, laat middeleeuws gebouw, wat verscholen gelegen in een van de steegjes in de oude binnenstad. Het gebouw dient nu als onderkomen van de plaatselijke oudheidkundige vereniging.
