   Built in 1894 with the height of 37 m this water tower was meant to help extinguishing fires around Twickel ( Twickel is a beautiful county estate) and to provide drinking water the inhabitants of Delden. Interesting fact that while drilling for water, the salt was discovered in the water. Thus the salt industry started to develop and this water tower was connected to nearby city - Almelo's water system. Apparently Delden’s water tower is still in use nowadays. See more..

   Beautiful estate with vast gardens to explore! I visited in April having taken the train from Amsterdam for the day as I wanted to explore the gardens and surrounding estate lands for the day. I contacted Baartman Taxis of Hengelo and they provided an affordable pickup/dropoff service from the train station to the Castle and other areas. The gardens were lovely! More greenery than floral, I saw swans, crooked trees, topiaries, and a herd of white deer! A great time to meander and reflect. The gift shop staff were friendly and spoke a bit of English and there was lots of history to discover. See more..

   A new art museum opened it's doors on 15 April, 2018: Museum No Hero. The museum is situated in a stunning historic building in Delden, surrounded by beautiful gardens. Inside the building you'll find a museum shop and a restaurant.    The city of Delden lies in the heart of the salt mining region in the Netherlands. Here in the city of Delden in 1888 (by chance) salt deposits were proven to exist. Since 1918 the "Koninklijke Nederlandse Zoutindustrie" (Royal Dutch Salt Enterprise) has been active in this region with extracting salt from the salt deposits far underground. The "Koninklijke Nederlandse Zoutindustrie" is one of the predecessors and now part of the Akzo Nobel multinational. It is therefore appropriate that in Delden the "Zoutmuseum" (Salt museum) is established. This museum is dedicated to the properties, use, health benefits and dangers of salt (referred to of course is kitchen salt NaCl). Use and value of salt through the ages, salt extraction and refining and a collection of salt shakers form an unexpectedly interesting exhibition. This museum is to be recommended. Entrance is for a moderate fee. Free entrance with the Dutch annual museum pass. See more..

   This church is rather small, but that fits the environment: Delden is not a large town either. The building has some nice details and the interior decoration is simple but elegant as well. There are some fresco's and partly stained glass windows. See more..
