   On a group camping holiday nearby 40 of us Brits decided to learn the Dutch skill of Bolus making at the Brusea Fishermans Museum. Much to the amusement of onlookers and staff alike we were all given the opportunity to roll and scroll a Bolus which was then baked for consumption along with a coffee or tea. We all then took time to visit the museum exhibits and learn the life and hazards of being a fisherman out of the port of Bruinisse in the olden days and the story of the Mussel fishing that is now so important to this region of Holland. As well as being educational we all had a fun day at the Fishermans Museum and we all hope to visit again in the future perhaps next time learning the skill of Mussel cooking (and eating!).    The Krammer locks are located in the Philipsdam that is connecting St. Philipsland with Schouwen-Duiveland and Goeree-Overflakkee. The distance between the village of Bruinisse and the locks is 7 km. Completed in 1987 the locks ensure boat traffic between Zeeland and the big rivers Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt is smooth. Quite an achievement these locks: the biggest concrete construction ever undertaken by the Dutch government. It is possible to reach the locks on foot, by bicycle or motorized vehicle.    Rarely leave businesses a 1 star but felt I had no choice in this case. Luckily I booked via social deal so didn’t pay full price but it still wasn’t value for money. 3 hours sat on a plastic stool with no back, with nothing really interesting to see, as the seals are only in one location. Visited on a very hot day- while we were warned in advance it’s cash only on board (very strange), we were not aware of just how expensive the drinks would be. 2.50 for a small glass (not bottle) of tap water!! People were clearly struggling in the heat (with no shade) yet it wasn’t considered to give people a free glass of water. By having complimentary water this could have changed the whole experience to a more positive one. The toilet was also flooding Meanwhile the captain eats and drinks, drives too close to the seals and honks his VERY load horn without informing anyone first.    Went out on the Aquavitesse yesterday (27/07/19) as a party of 10 with little or no experience at all, James put us on the fishing straight from the off, we pulled up in excess of 40 Conger (all returned to fight another day) with 3 weighing in at over 50lb with the largest hitting 65lb, you cannot ask for a more helpful skipper, I personally have been out on a number of boats over the years and I have never had such successful trips as the two I have been on with the Aquavitesse, brilliant skipper, great boat! Well done James and thanks again for an absolute fantastic day, we will be booking again very soon!! Tight lines! See more..
