De 15de eeuwse Pieterskerk van Breukelen image
This as a small cathedral (protestant) church (14th century) with some special elements: a tomb in the choir and lots of memorial boards, all related to the family living at the time at Nyenrode. The organ is a beautiful Batz baroque organ, which can sometimes be heard during a concert. Not normally opened for visits. Only during concerts and the Dutch Monuments Day. See more..

  7. 4.0 wandelpark van Ridderhofstad Gunterstein uit 1680 (3 reviews)
    - nice park for a stroll, the walk up to it along the road is not as nice
    Spent < 1 hour Parks
wandelpark van Ridderhofstad Gunterstein uit 1680 image
In a bend of the Laan van Gunterstein is the public entrance to this park. It is lovely with meadows and trees. The way up to it is not so nice because it is a shared road with pedestrians, people riding their bike, motorcycles and cars have to share the road. As a pedestrian you are the weakest part of traffic. The road is relatively narrow and when cars coming from both ways, it is kind of scary. The park itself is good for a relaxing walk. The public part is separated by a small 'no entrance' sign on a chain from the part that is restricted because it is in use by the family that owns the park and the castle. It is great that the family does share the park with the public. Chapeau! The rating 'average' is because of the scary road (for pedestrians) to the park and the lack of parking (so you have to walk to get there; and that is scary). See more..
  8. 3.5 Kasteel Nijenrode (8 reviews)

  9. 3.0 Park Boom en Bosch (14 reviews)
    - quiet park in a quiet town; extras in Fall and Summer: Dutch poffertjes/music
    Spent < 1 hour Parks
    Park Boom en Bosch image
This is a nice little park in the town of Breukelen. It is rather small, but so is the town. There are some benches, wooded area a lawn and you can walk around the 'Boom en Bosch' building (former city hall) to get to the garden that is facing the river Vecht. That is a beautiful part of it. Also with additional seating. In the Fall/Autumn there is the 'poffertjeskraam' that serves delicious Dutch poffertjes (stacks of tiny pancakes with butter and powdered sugar). Yummy! And in the summer a foundation organizes weekly music performances in the park on Sunday. That is mainly in July and August. They even will provide garden chairs to sit in and enjoy the music. The concerts are free. There is food/drinks for sale and a lottery for which you can buy tickets in the intermission. Usually the first performance is from 2pm to 3pm and the second performance is from 3:15pm to 4pm(ish). Both Fall and Summer activities are a bonus to going to this park. See more..
