   We hit Tuesday in the holidays and that is when they have chicks inside which can be handled. In fact 3 more than when we arrived as there are also eggs hatching. We also benefitted from an auction where eggs were 'bid for'. We spent a couple of hours here, staff are enthusiastic. There are lots of different Dutch breeds outside. Inside is a little history of chickens and chicken farmers from locals to bigger production. Lots of history, and pictures for those whose Dutch is not so good. Not for everyone I suspect, if you have kids and are in the area I would suggest you go and look at some real, live Barneveld hens and cockerels.....both white and brown. See more..

   A day out wandering in Barneveld was nice. The centre is not big and when we saw the old church was open, we made a stop. Very friendly people in the church whom we talked to. The organ is the only beautiful interior. But outside, there is a very remarkable spot on the tower square, at the right side of the tower, the placet on the ground where Jan van Schaffelaar ( a cavalry officer ) jumped off from the church tower.    Landgoed Schaffelaar is a quite big estate with a manor house or I'd preffer say a castle. The castle building of 1850 is in Neo Tudor Style, very beautiful. We couldn't visit the castle self as it's a location for events. Walking in the estate is free of charge.     Een paar keer per jaar gaan we hier naar een voorstelling. Goed gemêleerd programma. Gratis en genoeg parkeergelegenheid. Je kunt zelf je jas ophangen. Als er meerdere voorstellingen zijn dan is er echt te weinig ruimte. Voor consumpties moet je bonnen kopen. Maak de kaartjes iets duurder dan is de doorstroming beter. Waar ik me elke keer aan erger zijn de fotograferende bezoekers..
