  7. 4.5 Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren (251 reviews)
    - Beautiful views but plan beforehand
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren image
i saw some reviews of people who wanted to climb the tower but found a closed door: be aware that you have to buy your tickets beforehand at the VVV (the Dutch tourist office). Only during summer months there are daily tours to the top of the tower:in July and August every day between 12.00 and 18.00. Outside the summer season there is only one daily tour starting at 14.00. So yes, you get the added benefit of being far from the maddening crowd of Amsterdam, but this goes with reduced opening hours. The views from the top are stunning, and you get to climb up much higher than most towers (to the final trans). When we got the tour, we were the only two people and the tour guide switched effortlessly to English (I'm Dutch but my partner isn't). The tour guide times the guide so that you are close to the carillion when it goes to play, so you can hear the bells from very close. See more..

The old port and connecting waterways of the city are amazing! They are in great shape and show you a piece of history in a most beautiful way. Fun thing is that there are many bridges across the water, most very narrow and only for pedestrians. Stroll around at leisure, in and out of the historic center, and enjoy all the buildings, sights and the green areas. Of course, best enjoyed on a sunny day. There are also many cafés, restaurants and outside terraces. See more..

    Mondriaanhuis image
The understanding of the role of the nature that showed the cubical forms to a little Piet and rooted the creativity ideas which later were reflected in his creation, comes to you when you take the paths which lead to the house of Mondrian’s birth. Cubical forms are everywhere in this little neighborhood of Amersfoort. This musea is an eye opener to several unknown details from the life of Piet Mondrian and his early works. It’s also the place to discovery the talented artists who’re exposing in this museum. The important aspect of this house-museum is that despite the non spacious size of it, it is wheelchair friendly! St. Joris kerk (St Georges church) is the largest church in Amersfoort and sits in the main square (the Hof). Not too exciting on the inside but a few times a day about two minutes after the clock has struck the hour figures of St George and the dragon come out of the small bell tower at the front of the church and St George proceeds to slay the dragon. Rather entertaining. See more..

The area of the old trees ( Veteranen bomen) is forbidden to enter. You can make a walk through a lane of the "European beech" trees.
