Taco was our guide. He provided us with explicit directions to this preserve, met us at the train stop, provided a spotting scope , transportation via personal car to over 5 local habitats & could bird by sight and ear. Easily understood and spoke English. We quickly were able to see chiffchaffs ,tits, even a Bluethroat & Ouzel. Both my sister and I marveled at the abundance of species presented on this lovely clear day. I think even Taco relished his time birding. His email of sightings identified over 60 birds from grasslands, wetlands and trees from these "low land" countrysides. I personally am a beginner to birding, but was thrilled at our good luck weather, the bird activity and the challenge to my abilities. My sister marveled at the experience during our first time in the Netherlands. These 4.5 hrs. were a highlight of our 10 day stay . We were saddened to say "goodbye" to this delightful guide and extended an invitation to visit Va. Bch, Va. or/& Tucson, Az. See more..

Almere is a city you can find literally everything. The City Mall is an amazing place with a big variety of shops and it doesn't have Amsterdam's crowds. Most of the time you will find English speaking employees working so you feel comfortable wherever you are. I have to point that Almere has a specific place you can find all restaurants from different places of the earth (there are more of course, so check my other reviews too). See more..

De Kemphaan is a green area where there are several things to do, there is a botanical garden, there are play areas for kids, there is a city farm, a restaurant and the headquarters of the ape foundation (stichting aap). I went here with my wife a few times when I was still living in Almere, we would go to the farmers market, we would visit the farm animals, visit the apes of stichting aap (the access to all is for free) and have a drink at the restaurant.... next to the restaurant there is also a botanical garden and there is plenty of space to walk around in the forest that surrounds the area. If you want to see the Chimpansees you might want to check out first the site of stichting aap, as you can only see those with a group and you need to reserve a place in advance. If you are in the Almere area it is nice to visit this place, but in all honesty I wouldn't go to Almere just to visit this!. See more..

This is a great place to go - it's very educational with a huge amount of information about how Flevoland was created and some of the wildlife that has been re-introduced into the polder. The displays are great and information is very good, the only downfall is that i the information is not in other languages so you need someone to translate for you if you don't read/understand Dutch. The volunteers and staff are always very friendly and you can have a cup of tea or coffee for a couple of euros and even buy some great jams and preserves made by local people. See more..
