  1. 5.0 Dornod Museum (1 review)
    - Fascinating insight into local history

I got to see many items including beautiful paintings, various interesting memorabilia, the dictator Choibalsan's desk and personal radio, and a bowl large enough to boil mutton for 500 people! Even using the pit toilet was an interesting experience as I have never seen such a large pit in my life! I definitely recommend this museum for its laid back atmosphere and the variety of items on display. I also visited the Natural History Museum next door, which my ticket included entry to - I had to wake up the lady at reception who was having a nap but she was helpful and opened up the Natural History Museum for me. - Pleasant and slightly surreal experience

One afternoon my mother and I decided to take a taxi from the market to the train station to visit this lesser known railway (only two trains per week leave from here!). It was interesting to see people cleaning trains and there was even a food kiosk inside the station building, despite there not being any passengers. If we had had the time we would have taken a picnic as the atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxing, but we didn't want to make the taxi driver wait too long. Will definitely consider coming back to try out the Choibalsan to Ereentsav railway experience, however I regret not asking to have a look inside the train to get an idea how comfortable it would be for an overnight journey. 3. 5.0 Mongolian Heroes’ Memorial (1 review)
    - Epic Stalinist monument

Incredible monument, similar in some ways to the Zaisan Memorial in Ulaanbaatar due to its horseshoe arch depicting war scenes. It is also fascinating to see a real Soviet tank which had been used in the Khalkhiin Gol war back in 1939! A stone's throw away from this monument (moving away from the main road) you can see another memorial with statues representing the Buryat and Khalkha ethnicities. See more..
  4. 4.0 Natural History Museum (2 reviews)
    - Great natural history museum

My mother and I were very impressed with this museum, which has an amazing collection of stuffed animals and other displays on local flora, fauna, geology etc. Our entry ticket to the Dornod Regional Museum across the road was valid for this museum as well and we were honoured to have it opened specifically for us. The only improvements we would have to make would be to add more labels and exhibition texts in English and replace/remove some of the older items. See more..
