    Great Ziggurat of Ur image
The ancient Sumerian City of Ur was one of the first cities in the world as such its considered by many to hold a central position in the development of human history. The city of Ur was considered a regional religious cen-ter, where Gods such as Nanna (Moon God), Enki (God of Water & Wisdom) and the Goddess Nin-Gal (The Great Lady, Wife of Nanna) were worshipped. Periods of Inhabitation: History of excavations in Ur The ancient city of Ur was inhabited for more than 5,000 Though never again inhabited, the ancient site of Ur was years by diverse cultures, ranging from the prehistoric often 'rediscovered', since its characteristic ziggurat never Ubaid and Uruk to the Achaemenid Persians. Three dynasties of kings specifically from Ur are mentioned in the Sumerian King List: •The 1st Dynasty reportedly ruled for 177 years. • The 2nd Dynasty reportedly ruled for 116 years. • The 3rd Dynasty ruled for 108 years (ca. 21 12-2004 BCE). This is the only Ur dynasty clearly found in the archaeological record. Its kings built many of the great monuments of Ur in what is considered to be the city's golden age. Ur was abandoned ca. 300 BCE. By this time, the river Euphrates had wandered on its course too far away from the city. Sand engulfed the remnants of the bri-k city and they lay buried for more than 2,000 years. See more..

This is one of the oldest temples in Iraq and one of few archaeological Sumerian sites that can be visited in the city of Thiqar. Getting here may be tricky as you need to buy the tickets in the museum inside the city and then come to the site. The place is known for worshiping thr good of moon in old Mesopotamian city of Ur and next to it there is the royal palace and the royal graveyard which are closed now for excavation. Walking here is walk in to glorious history of Sumer. The greatness of the place and the first civilization in the history will take you to another world and you can imagine how great festivals were held here. The place definitely need more care to show its beauty See more..
