MEXX the Cooking School is so much more than a 'Cooking School' - it's a place of inspiration, a place to meet new people and experience new feelings - to reawaken the senses and to give you more confidence to broaden an existing repertoire of dishes. Whatever it does for you, we can guarantee that the experience will send you away with more than you bargained for, whether it's food or ideas, it really is great 'take home value'. MEXX the Cooking School offers a one day practical hands - on course, demonstrations, Team Building or Private Evening Class that have been created for EVERYONE. Our philosophy regarding preparing and cooking food in our class is simple. We believe a hand - on training in the kitchen is the best way to learn how to cook. We also like you to be able to cook all dishes yourself at home by using our well described and exact recipes as guidance. For this reason we only show you the Indonesian way of preparing and cooking with traditional equipment, but we will cook with normal cooking/kitchen ware which every western Kitchen is equipped with. There will be no need for you to buy any additional expensive cooking utensils to prepare the dishes when you are at home. Let's get started and be ready to have some fun together. 9. 4.5 Balian Beach (197 reviews)
    - Two Balians
    Beaches
    Balian Beach image
The area surrounding Balian reminds me of Bali from about 25 years ago. The beach itself is quite spectacular, black volcanic sand with crashing surf. This beauty can change within one tropical downpour. After a night of heavy rain the river emptied its contents into the ocean. I was absolutely appalled, amazed and saddened by the amount of rubbish that was deposited onto the beach. There would have been easily over 1000 plastic water bottles alone with every other piece of plastic you can think of. Bali is a beautiful island with generous, genuine people but is nothing is done about the plastic pollution then the island will become one huge dump. I believe there are some very wealthy foreigners that own hotels on the island, shame they cannot put some of the wealth back into rectifying the plastic scourge. See more..
  10. 4.5 Vihara Dharma Giri (38 reviews)
    - Sensational Buddha
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Vihara Dharma Giri image
What a wonderful unexpected Buddhist temple complex in the middle of Bali. About 2.5 hours by car from Kuta is this magnificent White Lying Buddha. A donation is required for entry. There are a number of steps to gain access to the highest part of the complex. I can highly recommend taking a day trip to see this temple. If you plan on seeing the north coast of Bali then you can go via this location and continue on the main road to the coast. The views are wonderful. Make your trip back along a different route from Singaraja through Bedugal. Many wonderful sites along the way. See more..
  11. 4.5 Blahmantung Waterfall (37 reviews)
    - Gorgeous, a real hidden gem
    Waterfalls
    Blahmantung Waterfall image
Not the biggest waterfall in Bali, but a beautiful one, and best of all one with very few tourists and relatively little litter! :) The photo you see at the top is NOT Blahmantung; it's Munduk waterfall. Unlike Munduk you can bathe at Blahmantung, enjoying both the cool water and the birds that whizz around you catching insects. If it's dry season and you're a decent rider you can get all the way to the falls on a scooter, although the path is less than 1m wide for much of the way. Google maps is inaccurate in this case; take the turning right when you see the sign 'Air Terjun Tinggarsari'. It's about 2km down that path, keeping left. See more..

    Vihara Mahavira Bedugul Baturiti image
Journey was quite far from Legian,Bali. But it was totally worth it!On our way up...the driver decided to switch off the aircon in the MPV.The air outside was cooling...around 18 degrees. Finally, somewhere cold in Bali as we were always getting burnt in the beaches near Nusa Dua and Kuta. The view was breathtaking! You can also pay for the boat ride around the lake.We didn't take it as we were busy watching a prayer ceremony. But unable to go inside the temple as there were securities standing at every entrance of the temple. My Kids and I really enjoyed the tour. 13. 4.5 Pura Batu Bolong (28 reviews)
    - Temples and coastline
    Religious Sites
    Pura Batu Bolong image
Beautiful coastline of multiple temples. Before you get to the pathway along the ocean where the temples are located, you can have your taxi or Grab driver drop you off outside the gate. If the driver drops you off inside, you’ll have to pay the car entry fee. Before walking towards the coastline, you’ll walk through a shopping area where there are bathrooms, restaurants, cafés, and local craft merchants. I’ve been told most people go and watch the sunset here. We went in the middle of the day and the view of the coastline is breathtaking as well as viewing the ancient temples. If my memory is correct, you can only enter one of the temples if you have appropriate clothing. It was difficult to confirm a Grab driver for a pick-up so I highly recommend if you can’t find one, the taxi stand in the main parking lot has set pricing based on the district you’re traveling to. - Ceremony for my Mum
    Mountains
    Batukau Mountain image
My Balinese friends of 20 years took me to Batukau Mountain Temple for a very special & emotional Blessing for my Mum who just died a month ago. I asked my friends if they could do this to ensure my Mum was completely at peace in her next life. They said it would be our honorable to do this for your Mum as you are part of our family. I had to wear traditional Balinese clothing & it we as an incredibly special Ceremony. My Mum was created in Australia so this was also very special to me as there was no Funeral. The place is unlike any other Temple I have visited, very peaceful & serene & was the perfect location for this Ceremony. See more..

  17. 4.5 Margarana Memorial Park (15 reviews)
    - Important Historic Site
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Margarana Memorial Park image
While off the paths normally tread by tourists, this site is important in understanding the independence struggle. The site of a 1946 battle between Dutch and Balinese forces, the markers (they're not gravestones) indicate how many Balinese died for Indonesian independence (although only 96 were from the battle at Marga). Take the time to look for both the (very few) Christian crosses and the Japanese characters on some of the monuments - as Christians at that time in Bali were usually Eurasian and therefore nominally tied to the Dutch administration and the Japanese soldiers were those who refused repatriation, took Balinese names, and joined the struggle. A sobering place that is just as important to visit as the beaches and temples. See more..

  19. 4.5 Mount Batukaru (8 reviews)
    - Mt. Batukaru - an Alternative to Mt. Batur
    Mountains
    Mount Batukaru image
Hiked Mt. Batukaru via the Jatiluwih Trail from the Pura Luhur Bhujangga Waisnawa Temple. Mt. Batukaru is higher, wilder, and far less commercialized than Mt. Batur. However, the trail is steep, slippery, narrow, rutted out, and infested with leeches. It is also criss-crossed with spider webs (the spiders are small and apparently harmless). There were no people on the trail when I hiked it - no tourists, no locals hawking "guiding services," and - best of all - no "mafia." The trail is well marked with yellow ribbons (sadly there's also a lot of trash). It took me 2 hours to reach the top and 1 hour, 45 minutes to descend back to the trailhead. Although it was hot, I recommend wearing long pants and gaiters to prevent leech bites (I got bit four times on and around the ankles). Bring a rain jacket, as well. Although it was cloudy and I had no views, this was a very satisfying hike through a spectacular rain forest. See more..
  20. 4.5 Pura Luhur Tambawaras (7 reviews)
    - Impressive and expansive Temple - mind the monkeys!
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
    Pura Luhur Tambawaras image
A very expansive temple complex, with an interesting history, as well as spectacular ocean views. A reasonable walk, and the paths are well-laid out so normal footwear is just fine. Very nice refreshment facilities near the main car park. Be aware of the monkeys - they will try to steal shiny things, or "attractive things" (which includes sunglasses!). See more..
